PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Benny Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yan Ti San (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). San has chosen Brainfreeze (part 1) - DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Benny Paul!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yan Ti San!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
San lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


It looks like Benny Paul has been cut.
Paul misses the jab.
A head kick misses from San.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Paul looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A jab-cross combination lands for San and sends Paul crashing to the mat! San follows him down to the mat - Paul regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
San passes to full mount!
Oh Paul is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Paul tries to hold on but San postures up.
Paul seems to have got his legs back now.
Paul wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
San controlling well, preventing Paul from escaping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
San has good solid back control here.

Paul looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Paul rolls, trying to escape but San keeps control of the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Paul just trying to survive but San is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

San is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
San controlling well, preventing Paul from escaping the position.
Paul breaks San's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
San wants to stand up but Paul is controlling him.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Paul looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
San dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Paul. That did some damage!

San misses with a head kick.

San ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
No joy there for San, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Paul throws a combination but it was largely blocked by San.
Paul is breathing heavily.
Paul tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but San paws at him with a jab and circles away.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
San throws a series of punches but Paul moves out of range.

Paul shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
San is looking to get to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


San misses with a double jab
and Paul counters with a nice body shot.
Paul avoids the body shot from San.
A head kick misses from Paul.
Paul fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Paul shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
San stuffs the takedown.
San lands a nice looking kick to the body. Paul takes a step back to recover.
San connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

San sets himself and throws a head kick that knocks Paul to the ground! San dives into full mount looking to finish!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Paul tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

San moves to the back.

You can see the frustration on Paul's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

San gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Yan Ti San showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Jeez, Benny Paul's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
San scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
San dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
San fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Paul.
The crowd cheers as San lands an impressive looking overhand right. Paul doesn't seem phased though.
San throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Paul's head.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Benny Paul's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:47 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Yan Ti San!
