PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hero Shima (ranked 1080 p4p, 661 weight class) and Lou Slugger (ranked 139 p4p, 87 weight class). Shima comes to the cage accompanied by C. R. E. A. M. Slugger has chosen For Heavy Metal we will die! as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hero Shima!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lou Slugger!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Percy O'Donnell and Jack Bonds.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Slugger misses
and Shima counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Shima misses with a body shot
letting Slugger counter with a right hand.
Slugger avoids the body shot from Shima.
Shima cracks Slugger with an open hand slap.

It looks like Lou Slugger has been cut.
Shima misses the body punch
and Slugger counters with a lovely straight right hand!

It looks like Hero Shima has been cut.
Slugger throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Shima counters with a left to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shima tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Shima cracks a nice hook into Slugger's ribs.
Shima throws out a powerful jab.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Shima drops Slugger with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Slugger looks back up at him and smiles so Shima waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Slugger swings widly with a right hand
and Shima rattles Slugger with a well-timed uppercut counter. - Slugger tries to back away and recover but his hands are down low and he gets tagged again, sending him stumbling down to the canvas. Shima dives in after him and quickly finishes the job with a trio of brutal punches, leaving Slugger stiff and motionless on the mat!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:13 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Hero Shima!
Hero Shima decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
