The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barkley thows a left - swing and a miss!
Barkley scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Schmidt doesn't seem bothered though.
Schmidt throws a poor cross that misses
enabling Barkley to counter with a crisp jab.

It looks like Royce Schmidt has been cut.

Barkley feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Schmidt sprawling to the canvas! Schmidt rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Barkley finish him?!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Barkley lands with a shot to the body.
Schmidt misses with an uppercut. Barkley saw that one coming.
Barkley swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Schmidt throws a solid leg kick but Barkley takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Schmidt.
Barkley appears to be looking for a big counter.

and Barkley cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Schmidt uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Barkley.
Schmidt drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Barkley defends it well.
We've been told by Barkley's head coaches at Primal Concrete Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Schmidt shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Schmidt takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Schmidt fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Barkley, pushing him back against the cage.

Barkley throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Schmidt changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Schmidt looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A counter left hand to the body from Barkley misses its target.

and Barkley counters with a crisp right hand that drops Schmidt! Barkley lets Schmidt back up to his feet, looking for a finish!
Derrick Barkley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Royce Schmidt.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Schmidt throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Schmidt is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Barkley.

and Barkley counters with a crisp right hand that drops Schmidt! Barkley lets Schmidt back up to his feet, looking for a finish!

Schmidt takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Barkley stuffs the takedown.
Barkley is looking for a counter combo.
Schmidt misses with a takedown
and Barkley counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jab, jab by Barkley - just one landing.

Barkley cracks Schmidt with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Schmidt looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Barkley finish him?
Schmidt is still on wobbly legs! Can Barkley finish him?

Barkley ducks down into range and throws a picture perfect right hook that connects with Schmidt's jaw. Schmidt's eyes stare off into space as he falls to the mat, out cold! Barkley does the decent thing and steps back, rather than landing any shots to his unconscious opponent.
