PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Verney Lapierre (ranked 2050 p4p, 746 weight class) and Adam Bogo (ranked 124 p4p, 48 weight class). Lapierre's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Sugar. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Verney Lapierre!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 17 - 0, fighting out of London, Adam Bogo!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Arvi Lind and Anni Minnemäki.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lapierre throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Bogo steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Lapierre.
Bogo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Bogo lands a head kick!
Lapierre lands a body shot.
A slow jab from Lapierre misses its intended target.
Lapierre looks to score with a jab to the body but Bogo is just out of range.
And Bogo tries to counter it with a takedown but Lapierre pushes his down on his head and steps out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bogo throws a sloppy head kick and Lapierre moves out of range easily.

Lapierre bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Lapierre wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Bogo, who protects the arm well.

Lapierre goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Bogo rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Lapierre's guard! Nice work there by Bogo!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bogo thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Bogo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bogo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Lapierre has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bogo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Lapierre looking for a guillotine here but Bogo defends easily.

Lapierre escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bogo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Lapierre working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bogo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bogo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Bogo is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Lapierre has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Bogo is looking to defend but Lapierre has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Bogo! Lapierre pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Bogo taps out and this one is all over!

After winning the bout, Verney Lapierre thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
