PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Katelynn Arby (ranked 1496 p4p, 2758 weight class) and Uncle Abner (ranked 182 p4p, 330 weight class). Arby kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Sweet But Psycho. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Katelynn Arby!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Uncle Abner!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Fedor Mirinova and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Arby shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Arby was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Abner is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Arby is trying to get an arm triangle but Abner is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Arby is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Arby is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Abner has escaped the position, nice work there.
Abner is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Abner is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Abner felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Abner manages to work his way to half guard, despite Arby's best efforts.

Arby is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Abner gets back to full guard.
Arby is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Arby drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Arby jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Arby is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Abner looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Abner wants to get back to his feet but Arby is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Abner is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Arby passes the guard and advances to mount!
Abner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Arby. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Abner is squirming around, avoiding Arby's attempts to control the action.

Abner defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Arby.

Abner tries to lock up and control but Arby gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Arby closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Abner did well to prevent Arby getting side control.
Abner is staying active underneath Arby, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Abner is looking for a sweep. Arby is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Arby won't allow Abner to get back to his feet.
Arby slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Abner is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Arby moves away from the strike by Abner.
Arby shoots for a double leg takedown but Abner sprawls well. He's pushed Arby's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Arby closes the distance and clinches up with Abner, looking for a takedown. Arby pushes Abner against the cage but Abner circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Katelynn Arby. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Arby on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Arby shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Abner as he jumps to the side.
As Arby backs off Abner throws a huge counter combo but Arby manages to avoid it all.
Katelynn Arby seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A head kick misses from Abner.
Arby fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Arby has a takedown stuffed.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Arby.

Arby shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Arby's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Arby prevents Abner from getting back to his feet.
Abner is trying to control the position but Arby postures up.
Arby controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Arby seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Abner for as long as he can get away with.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Abner throws a hook but Arby blocks it.
Arby fails with a takedown attempt.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Abner is looking to improve his position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Uncle Abner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Abner swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Arby fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Abner avoids it really well and circles away.
Abner uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Arby has time to react.
Abner stuffs the takedown.
Arby shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Abner as he avoids it easily.
Abner counters with a body kick.

Abner displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Arby.
Abner unleashes a big counter combination but Arby bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Abner throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Arby.
Arby dives in and grabs Abner's left leg, looking for a takedown. Abner pushes down on Arby's head and hops out.
Arby looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Arby tries to score a power double leg takedown but Abner sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Arby somewhat.
A looping hook to the body misses from Abner. Arby does a little dance to reset his feet.

Arby shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Abner as he jumps to the side.
Abner lands a head kick. Arby smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Abner lands a big head kick that sends Arby tumbling to the mat! Abner takes a step backwards and waves Arby back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Arby is rocked!
Abner tries a low kick but Arby avoids it.
Oh Arby is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Arby closes the distance and clinches up with Abner, looking for a takedown. Arby pushes Abner against the cage but Abner circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Arby seems to have got his legs back now.
Arby shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Abner as he jumps to the side.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Abner misses with a low kick as Arby jumps back.
Uncle Abner seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Abner lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Arby circles away quickly and effectively.
Arby blocks the body kick.
Abner tries a head kick but it misses.
Abner keeps Arby at a distance using the push kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Abner lands a big right hand and follows it up with an uppercut. Oh and another big punch and a knee - Arby can't take much more of this! Another big shot to the jaw from Abner and Arby drops to the floor. Beaten and bloodied - he had enough there. A vicious beatdown by Abner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:08 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Uncle Abner!
