PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Xxx Xxx (ranked 6357 p4p, 23752 weight class) and Xxx Xxx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 70 - 21 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xxx Xxx!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 77 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xxx Xxx!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Fighter B enables Fighter A to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Fighter B manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Fighter A sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Fighter B avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Fighter B not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Fighter A postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fighter A is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Fighter B gets the takedown into side control.
Fighter A avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Fighter B.
Fighter A regains half guard there - taking advantage of Fighter B's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A is positioning himself well to prevent Fighter B advancing to mount.
Fighter B drops an elbow to the side of Fighter A's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fighter A blocking the ground and pound attempt from Fighter B.
Fighter A is holding on to half guard well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A regains full guard. Nicely done.
Fighter B lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Fighter A is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Fighter B ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Fighter A thows a leg kick but Fighter B checks it
and Fighter B counters with a body kick that stops Fighter A in his tracks momentarily.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Fighter B is defended easily by Fighter A.
Fighter A throws a counter high kick but Fighter B was just alert enough to avoid it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fighter B fails with a takedown attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Xxx Xxx dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Fighter B looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Fighter A!
Xxx Xxx has got the better of the ground game so far.
Fighter A is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Fighter B is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fighter A wants to control but Fighter B is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Fighter A has his hands clasped together around Fighter B's back. He's all about the action.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter A blocking the ground and pound attempt from Fighter B.
Fighter A is controlling Fighter B's trapped leg to prevent Fighter B from advancing to side control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Fighter B drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A controlling the position.
Fighter A wants to sweep but no luck.
Fighter B pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Fighter A is keeping the position for now.
Fighter B with a flurry of punches that miss.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A pulls Fighter B in to control the position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Fighter B throws an elbow that misses. Fighter A uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Fighter B's guard. Nice move by Fighter A!

Fighter B is striking but Fighter A is not phased and passes to half guard.
Fighter A controlling the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Fighter B wants to control but Fighter A is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Fighter B fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Fighter A avoids it really well and circles away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Xxx Xxx showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Fighter A postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Fighter B can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Fighter A controls the pace.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Fighter B wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Fighter A closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Fighter B quickly recovers to half guard.
Fighter B scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Fighter A manages to mount him!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Fighter B wants to control but Fighter A is having none of it.

Fighter B is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Fighter A controlling the position easily from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Fighter A avoids the attempt from Fighter B to control.
Fighter A controlling from the full mount.
Xxx Xxx has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Xxx Xxx is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Fighter A landing strikes from the mount and Fighter B is in trouble!

And that's the end of the fight!
Xxx Xxx showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Fighter B has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
