PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chief Walker (ranked 1601 p4p, 2772 weight class) and Pierre Ragout Mendy (ranked 213 p4p, 342 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chief Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 27 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Pierre Ragout Mendy!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Paulsen Ambrosius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendy stuffs the takedown.
Walker moves out of range of the strikes.
Mendy looks to land a right hand but Walker moved out of range.
Mendy displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Walker throws out the jab.
A telegraphed right hand from Walker misses the target.
Walker throws a big shot that misses.

Mendy looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Mendy looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Walker with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Walker wants to get back to his feet.
Mendy is trying to control the action in half guard but Walker is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Mendy working over Walker with some ground and pound. Walker looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Walker pushes Mendy off looking to stand but Mendy dives back in and keeps control.
Mendy lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Mendy working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Mendy is nestled in close to Walker, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Mendy is looking to advance position but Walker won't allow it.

Walker is trying to stand back up but Mendy is controlling him
Walker is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Mendy scores with a couple of nice shots.

Mendy has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Walker is trying to stand.

Walker pushes Mendy off looking to stand but Mendy dives back in and keeps control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mendy lands strikes from half guard.
Mendy takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Mendy is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Walker has one foot on Mendy's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mendy avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Walker darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

It looks like Pierre Ragout Mendy has been cut.
Mendy throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Walker misses the jab.
Walker throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Mendy tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Mendy takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Walker catches Mendy with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Mendy is rocked!
Walker uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Mendy.
Nice defenses there by Walker.
Walker seems to have got his legs back now.
Walker cracks Mendy with a good jab.
Mendy is still on wobbly legs! Can Walker finish him?
Mendy throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Walker fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Mendy to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Mendy looks to clinch but Walker throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Mendy taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Chief Walker!
Chief Walker got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'
