The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Petrov lands a glancing blow to the side of Thayer's head.
Petrov throws a lazy right hand but Thayer sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
A jab from Petrov misses.
Thayer lands a high kick!
Thayer doesn't manage to clinch there - Petrov circles away.
An attempted straight right counter from Petrov misses the target.
A left lands for Thayer.
Petrov lands with a hook. Thayer tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Thayer displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Petrov throws out the jab.

Petrov gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Thayer to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Thayer trying to control but Petrov is working from the bottom.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Thayer wants to pass the guard but Petrov is keeping the position.
Petrov wants to stand and escape but Thayer is having none of it.

Thayer advances to half guard.
Petrov tries to kick Thayer off but Thayer keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Petrov pushes Thayer off but Thayer dives into side control.

Thayer has hold of Petrov's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Petrov tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Thayer cranks the arm and Petrov screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Petrov, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
