PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Russ Simons (ranked 958 p4p, 2028 weight class) and Bobojo Makoba (ranked 118 p4p, 248 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Bobojo Makoba!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Bruno Lombardi and Joseph Jones.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Makoba comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Simons misses with a looping right.
The crowd cheers as Makoba lands an impressive looking overhand right. Simons doesn't seem phased though.

It looks like Russ Simons has been cut.
Makoba has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Makoba ducks under a wild hook from Simons.
Simons throws a shot from downtown. Makoba moves away and avoids it.
Simons misses with a hook. Makoba ducked under it nicely.
Makoba scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

A left lands for Simons.

It looks like Bobojo Makoba has been cut.
Makoba with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Simons to score with a decent uppercut.
Makoba scoring well with a low kick there.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Makoba tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Simons takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Simons throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Simons displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Makoba throws out the jab.
Simons rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Makoba counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Makoba throws a series of punches but Simons avoids them all with ease.
Simons ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Nice uppercut lands for Makoba. That snapped Simons's head back.
Makoba uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Simons.

Simons is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Simons throws a hook but Makoba blocks it.
Makoba connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Simons misses with a straight right.
Makoba staying out of range there.
Simons looks to land a left hand but Makoba moved out of range nicely.
Simons misses the shot to the body.
Makoba swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Simons.
Makoba has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Simons lunges at Makoba with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Makoba's hand.
Makoba throws an off balance right hand
and Simons counters with a stiff right hand.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Simons throws a looping overhand right but Makoba ducks down to avoid it.

Makoba connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Simons momentarily.

Russ Simons's cut is getting worse.
Makoba fails with an attempt to clinch.
Makoba waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Simons.
The fighters circling - Simons throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Makoba keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Makoba on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Makoba lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Makoba tries to clinch up.

Simons cracks Makoba with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Simons has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Makoba to stand back up!

That has opened up Bobojo Makoba's cut even more.
Simons loads up on a big right hand but Makoba slips the punch.
Makoba is still on wobbly legs! Can Simons finish him?
Simons connects with a picture perfect right hand that knocks Makoba out cold! This one is over in a flash!
