PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ernesto Mathieu (ranked 66 p4p, 23 weight class) and Andrei Kersikov (ranked 8 p4p, 3 weight class). Mathieu comes into the arena with F*ck Tha Police by NWA blaring out of the sound system. Kersikov has chosen Head of the Table as his entrance music. Andrei Kersikov told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ernesto Mathieu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andrei Kersikov!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yuuki Gou and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Mathieu blocks a jab.
Kersikov throws a nice inside leg kick.
We've been told by Mathieu's head coaches at Convicted Top Team that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Nice defenses there by Mathieu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kersikov looks for the body kick but Mathieu saw that one coming.
Mathieu half committed to a counter leg kick.
Kersikov misses with the body kick
and Mathieu counters with a thumping low kick.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Kersikov throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mathieu slips under a jab.
Kersikov throws an overhand right that lands on Mathieu's shoulder, as Mathieu tries to avoid the shot.
As Kersikov backs away, Mathieu returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Kersikov has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Kersikov misses with a body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kersikov lands with a nice body kick.
Kersikov fails to land with a series of punches.
A good leg kick by Kersikov.
Kersikov throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Mathieu makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Kersikov really felt that one!
Kersikov throws a lazy uppercut
and Mathieu counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Kersikov.
Kersikov looks to land a body kick but Mathieu moved away.
Kersikov pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kersikov throws out a loose jab but Mathieu uses good head movement to avoid it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kersikov lands a jab to the nose.

It looks like Ernesto Mathieu has been cut.
Kersikov throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Kersikov waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Mathieu.
A quick step to the side and Mathieu tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Mathieu was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kersikov misses with a looping left.
A solid leg kick lands there for Kersikov.
Kersikov thows a left - swing and a miss!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kersikov misses with a hook. Mathieu ducked under it nicely.
Mathieu feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Kersikov swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Mathieu moves out of range of the body kick from Kersikov.
Mathieu appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Kersikov misses with a left hand
and Mathieu counters with a good, hard body kick but Kersikov shrugs it off.
Kersikov does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
And Mathieu counters with a quick kick to the body but Kersikov blocks it.
Kersikov throws a body shot but no joy.
Mathieu swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
A head kick by Kersikov misses
and Mathieu cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

It looks like Andrei Kersikov has been cut.
Kersikov scoring well with a low kick there.
Kersikov throws a sloppy head kick and Mathieu moves out of range easily.
Mathieu thinks about countering with a body kick.
Kersikov misses with an uppercut
and Mathieu counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Kersikov thinking.

Kersikov throws a right hand that misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Kersikov misses the body punch
and Mathieu counters with a stiff right hand.
Andrei Kersikov seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Mathieu avoids a kick to the body.
Mathieu throwing a counter right hand but Kersikov manages to avoid it.
Kersikov bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Mathieu's head backwards.

Kersikov throws a body kick, spinning off balance
letting Mathieu counter with a right hand.
Kersikov scores with a push kick.
Kersikov throws a lazy right hand but Mathieu sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Kersikov misses with a wild combination.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Andrei Kersikov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Kersikov pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
An attempted straight right counter from Mathieu misses the target.
Kersikov stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Kersikov looks to throw a body kick
and Mathieu makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kersikov will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Mathieu takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Kersikov moves into range and lands a nice body kick.

Kersikov throws a jab but it's blocked by Mathieu.
Mathieu swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Mathieu slips under a jab from Kersikov.
Kersikov misses with an attempted mid kick.
A solid leg kick lands there for Kersikov.
Ernesto Mathieu has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

A counter left hand to the body from Mathieu misses its target.

and Mathieu counters with a right hand to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Andrei Kersikov.
Well Kersikov has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
