PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Davdio Branko (ranked 227 p4p, 76 weight class) and Lusmu Kutvonen (ranked 13 p4p, 4 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 20 - 0, fighting out of London, Davdio Branko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 16 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Lusmu Kutvonen!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Branko misses with a takedown attempt - Kutvonen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kutvonen throws the left hand but Branko avoids the punch easily.
Branko fails with the takedown.
Kutvonen let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Branko fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Davdio Branko. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Branko drives through with a takedown into Kutvonen's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Branko drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Kutvonen dives on top into guard.


Branko escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kutvonen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Branko wants to sweep here but Kutvonen controlling him for the moment.

Kutvonen connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Branko some visible discomfort.

Kutvonen seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Branko does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kutvonen connects with a nice short shot to Branko's temple.
Kutvonen seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Branko is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Kutvonen takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Branko makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Branko.
Kutvonen is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Kutvonen slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Lusmu Kutvonen dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Branko closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kutvonen to the mat! Kutvonen manages to get full guard.
Davdio Branko overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Branko stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kutvonen swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Branko drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kutvonen manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Branko has Kutvonen in his guard.

Kutvonen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Branko has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kutvonen has managed to get both his arms back between Branko's legs - danger averted.

Branko had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kutvonen defends it easily.

My spies in The Infamous Duranto Gym inform me that Kutvonen has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Branko has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Kutvonen is in real trouble here. Branko gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Kutvonen is tapping out! Branko wins by rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Davdio Branko!
