PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Seppo Maki (ranked 1107 p4p, 2681 weight class) and Rich Mahogany (ranked 161 p4p, 330 weight class). Mahogany has chosen Litty as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Seppo Maki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rich Mahogany!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Radbod Blank and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mahogany fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Maki, pushing him back against the cage.
Maki misses with a hook from the clinch.

Mahogany breaks from the clinch.
Rich Mahogany seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maki throws a body kick that misses.
Mahogany is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Maki with a body shot.
Nice sprawl there from Maki as Mahogany shoots in.
Maki throws a looping overhand right but Mahogany ducks down to avoid it.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Mahogany has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Maki lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Maki throws a punch but it's blocked by Mahogany.

Mahogany looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Maki is pressed up against the cage. Mahogany has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Maki down to the mat. Maki avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Maki on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Maki tries to get out of the position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mahogany throws an elbow but Maki slips to the side and avoids it well.

Maki can't do much from the bottom here.
Maki knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mahogany on the ground.

Mahogany swings around for an armbar but Maki sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Mahogany's guard.

Mahogany had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Maki defends it easily.

Mahogany has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Maki can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Mahogany has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Maki is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Mahogany.

Maki decides to stand up, so the ref orders Mahogany to his feet.

and Mahogany counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
That kick from Maki tenderised Mahogany's leg. Mahogany is trying to keep his angry face on.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Maki.
Mahogany misses with a looping left.
Mahogany throws a hook but Maki blocks it.
Maki lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Maki comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Mahogany moves out of range as Maki throws a body kick.
Mahogany walks into a straight right hand from Maki.
Maki throws a nice outside leg kick.

Mahogany misses with a takedown attempt - Maki sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Seppo Maki has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rich Mahogany.

Maki uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Mahogany.
As Mahogany backs away, Maki returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

and Maki cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

and Maki counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Crunch! Maki slams his shin into Mahogany's torso.
Maki is looking to slow Mahogany down with leg kicks.
A nice inside leg kick there by Maki. That's going to slow Mahogany down.
Maki bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Mahogany has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Maki.
Maki lands a nice looking kick to the body. Mahogany takes a step back to recover.
Mahogany takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Mahogany shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Maki dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Mahogany. That did some damage!

Horrible takedown attempt by Mahogany or perhaps it was just good defense by Maki, which made it look bad.

Mahogany changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Maki tries to avoid it but Mahogany manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Maki to the ground. Maki escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Maki, as that shot connected.

and Maki counters with a crisp right hand that drops Mahogany! Maki lets Mahogany back up to his feet, looking for a finish!

Mahogany gets tagged by a hook that puts him to sleep! Maki points and yells something to his unconcious foe before strutting off. Mahogany wakes up just in time to hear Maki thank his coaches in the post fight interview.

Seppo Maki thanked the fans post fight for their support.
