Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jake Shields (ranked 1437 p4p, 2082 weight class) and Itziar Belmond (ranked 193 p4p, 276 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Shields might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Seven Nation Army. Itziar Belmond acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Itziar Belmond!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Roosa Järviläinen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Belmond throws a nice outside leg kick.
Shields misses with a hook
and Belmond counters with a nice uppercut.
Shields has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Shields shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Belmond as he avoids it easily.

Belmond goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Shields closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Jake Shields seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Belmond throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Shields fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Belmond avoids it really well and circles away.
Belmond throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

Shields will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Belmond throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Shields moves in looking to clinch but Belmond pushes him off.
Belmond thinks about the counter body kick.
Shields goes for a double leg but Belmond avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Belmond continues to drive forward.

Shields has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Belmond uses from the top position.

Shields is looking for a sweep. Belmond is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Belmond clobbers Shields with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Belmond feints a jab and as Shields dips his head, Belmond unleashes a brutal head kick that catches Shields right on the jaw! Timbeeer! Shields falls backwards in slow motion, only propped up by the cage! Belmond smiles a psychotic smile as he stares down his unconscious opponent. That is a scary man.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Itziar Belmond!
