Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Charlie River (ranked 1371 p4p, 919 weight class) and Prince McVicker (ranked 100 p4p, 66 weight class). River comes to the cage accompanied by Waylon Jennings - I've Always Been Crazy. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 19 - 1, fighting out of New York, Charlie River!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Prince McVicker!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Ben Watson and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McVicker on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by River. River obviously looking to wear him down.

River moves into range and clinches up with McVicker.
McVicker is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but River is defending well.
River doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
River misses with a hook to the ribs.
River is pressed up against the cage. McVicker has hold of a leg and is looking to drag River down to the mat. River avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
River lands a head shot.
River fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
McVicker takes one to the side of the head.
Charlie River seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McVicker checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

River closes the distance and clinches.
River misses with a hook to the ribs.
River swings away with an uppercut that misses.

McVicker escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
River with a body punch. A glancing blow.
River scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
River stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and River wants it to stay on the feet.
Charlie River has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Prince McVicker.

McVicker throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. River tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. McVicker is in River's guard.
McVicker working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
River on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if River tries to get out of the position.
McVicker wants to control from the top but River keeps moving.
McVicker trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
McVicker won't allow River to get back to his feet.
River keeping moving, preventing McVicker from controlling successfully.
McVicker stops River from standing up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McVicker missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
McVicker moves out of range as River strikes.
River throws a jab but it's blocked by McVicker.
McVicker looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
McVicker fails to land the takedown.
River throws a shot from downtown. McVicker moves away and avoids it.
River delivers a nice body kick.
River connects with a nice looking jab.
A head kick by River misses

and McVicker counters by moving into the clinch.
McVicker blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
River wants to stall.
River tried to land a shot to the body but connects with McVicker's elbow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

McVicker breaks the clinch.
River throws a shot from downtown. McVicker moves away and avoids it.
River scores with a hook to the body. McVicker takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

McVicker dives in and scores a takedown into River's guard.
River wants to get back to his feet but McVicker passes into half guard.

McVicker not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
McVicker wants to free his trapped foot but River is holding on for dear life with his legs.
McVicker prevents River from standing back up.
McVicker tries to pass to full mount but River defends it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

McVicker is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed River to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.

McVicker drops back looking for a leg! River is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and River manages to kick McVicker off! McVicker jumps back into River's guard.

River is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
This has been an exciting period of action!
River lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt McVicker or not.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Charlie River dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

River takes a swing at McVicker's ribcage but misses.
McVicker feints the counter takedown.
McVicker staying out of range there.
McVicker thuds his right hand into River's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
A low kick lands for River.
McVicker stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from River.

McVicker shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. McVicker showed some decent athleticism there.

McVicker is trying to work for a kimura but River is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

River is not content to let McVicker control the position.
McVicker trying to mount his opponent but River defends it.
River keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
River is trying to stand.
McVicker is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

River manages to escape and get back to his feet!
McVicker will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
River throws a hook to the side of McVicker's head but McVicker sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
River is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that McVicker can do to turn this around?
McVicker fails with the takedown.
McVicker has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from River finds it's way round the side to connect with McVicker's head.
McVicker throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around River's waist but River gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McVicker off to one side.
Charlie River has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Prince McVicker.
River slaps away a takedown attempt from McVicker, before circling back to the center of the mat.
River appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
The crowd cheers as River lands an impressive looking overhand right. McVicker doesn't seem phased though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
River lands the left hand.
River lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
River stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and River wants it to stay on the feet.
River throws a combination but it was largely blocked by McVicker.
Charlie River is winning the standup battle so far.
River jabbing away but nothing is landing.
River throws a nice outside leg kick.
River throws a hook but McVicker blocks it.
McVicker keeps the fight on the outside.
And McVicker tries to counter it with a takedown but River pushes his down on his head and steps out.
River throws a hook to the side of McVicker's head but McVicker sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
McVicker with the counter takedown but River avoids it easily.
McVicker keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
River walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. McVicker checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
McVicker tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
McVicker has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from River.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
No luck for McVicker with that takedown attempt.
River tries to work over McVicker's front leg with a kick but McVicker checks it.
River doesn't manage to clinch there - McVicker circles away.
A clash of legs there as McVicker blocks the low kick.
River looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
The fighters circling - River throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
And McVicker tries to counter it with a takedown but River pushes his down on his head and steps out.
No luck with that takedown attempt from McVicker.

River gets caught napping as McVicker dives in and scores a takedown. River manages to retain guard.
River wants to stand and escape but McVicker is having none of it.
McVicker pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. River is keeping the position for now.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Charlie River dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


River has closed the distance and engaged McVicker in a clinch.
River lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of McVicker backwards.

River's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
McVicker fails with the takedown.
River throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
River connects with an inside leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
River throws a leg kick

and McVicker counters with a nice double leg into guard.
River knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McVicker on the ground.
McVicker trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

McVicker is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! River is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! River has escaped and now he's on top!

McVicker wants to improve his position but instead River has moved into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McVicker is pressing down on River's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

McVicker looking for a guillotine here but River defends easily.
McVicker looking to hit a scissor sweep but River is one step ahead there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

McVicker has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but River can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

River stands up from McVicker's guard - River perhaps looking for a knockout.
River throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent McVicker stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
River throws a nice inside leg kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
River throws a hook but McVicker blocks it.
River fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches McVicker on the side of the head.
River throws a good cross that connects.
River keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
River connects with a solid leg kick.
River throws a shot from downtown. McVicker moves away and avoids it.
McVicker blocks a jab.
A good leg kick by River.
A shot to the body from River misses

and McVicker decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in River's guard.

McVicker drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and McVicker jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

McVicker postures up in River's guard and throws a big left but River blocks it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McVicker trying to control the position from guard on top but River is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

McVicker pushes down on River's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Prince McVicker has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
McVicker lands strikes from half guard.
McVicker throwing shots but River is blocking nicely.
River keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

McVicker is working for a submission of some sort.

And that's the end of the fight!
Charlie River showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for River, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
