PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Yusuf Mammadov (ranked 724 p4p, 1023 weight class) and Mareth Line (ranked 97 p4p, 142 weight class). Mareth Line told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Line.
Line tries to land a body kick
and Mammadov counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Line throws a lazy uppercut
and Line takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Nice uppercut lands for Line. That snapped Mammadov's head back.
Mammadov walks into a left hand.
A good leg kick by Line.
Line throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Line throws a poor cross that misses
and Mammadov counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Mammadov dives in and scores a takedown into Line's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Line controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Mammadov had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Line defends it easily.

Mammadov is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Line must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Mammadov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Line can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Mammadov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Line doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Line manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Line is looking to work some ground and pound but Mammadov has wrist control.

Mammadov has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Line got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mammadov has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Line has managed to get both his arms back between Mammadov's legs - danger averted.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Line throws a jab but it's blocked by Mammadov.

Mammadov tries to close the distance and clinch up but Line swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Line swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Line is looking to slow Mammadov down with leg kicks.
Line comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Mammadov buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Line pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mammadov misses with a head kick.
Mareth Line seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sloppy strikes from Mammadov. Those never looked like landing.
No joy there for Line, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Line looks to land a combination but Mammadov avoids it well.
Mammadov is looking to clinch but Line is avoiding it.

Mammadov lands a body punch.

Mammadov gets control of Line's arms and successfully pulls guard. Mammadov will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Line has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Mammadov to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Line is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Mammadov pulls down on the head and he's put Line to sleep! This one is all over!
