PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alika Hakekia (ranked 145 p4p, 280 weight class) and Sambo Sam (ranked 18 p4p, 45 weight class). Hakekia kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Blood On My Nikez. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 36 - 21 - 3, fighting out of Montreal, Alika Hakekia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Sambo Sam!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Steve Smith and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sam tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hakekia sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sam somewhat.
Hakekia bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Hakekia lands a nice leg kick that just misses Sam's sensitive parts.
Hakekia looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Sam lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hakekia circles away quickly and effectively.

Hakekia manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sam manages to get himself to full guard.

Sam has his foot on Hakekia's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hakekia works his way back into a safe position though.

Sam is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hakekia defends well.

Sam isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Hakekia stacks Sam on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Hakekia!

You can see the frustration on Sam's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Sam is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Hakekia is staying active.

Sam throws a right hand that Hakekia ducks under and follows up with a left that Hakekia also avoids with ease.

Hakekia swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Sam.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hakekia fakes the leg kick and cracks Sam in the body.

Hakekia lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Sam uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hakekia.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Sam shoots for a double leg takedown but Hakekia sprawls well. He's pushed Sam's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Hakekia does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Hakekia throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Sam throws the left hand but Hakekia avoids the punch easily.
Hakekia was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Sam tries to advance position but instead Hakekia slips a leg back in to half guard.

Hakekia is trying to stand up here but Sam is controlling him well.
Sambo Sam has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Sam is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Still in half guard, Sam seems content to control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Sam is trying to work for a kimura but Hakekia is defending well.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hakekia goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Sam's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Hakekia lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Sam cracks Hakekia with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Hakekia throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Hakekia throws a hook to the side of Sam's head but Sam sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

A kick lands to the mid section there for Hakekia.
Hakekia lands the left hand.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hakekia, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
