PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tye Kwondo (ranked 3007 p4p, 1594 weight class) and Froma Lan (ranked 341 p4p, 186 weight class). Lan is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Men At work - Down under. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lan slaps away a takedown attempt from Kwondo, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Lan bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Lan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kwondo, who protects the arm well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've been hearing good reports from Kwondo's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Kwondo is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Lan is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Lan works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Lan thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Lan is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kwondo's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kwondo's back!
Lan is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Lan gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Lan gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Lan apologises and we restart here on the feet.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Lan connects with a nice short shot to Kwondo's temple.

Kwondo has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Lan. Oh but Kwondo has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Lan goes limp - he's gone! Kwondo jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
