PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Zed Roland (ranked 4334 p4p, 4398 weight class) and Zane Allen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Zed Roland!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Zane Allen!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Daniel Franklin and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Allen shoots in and gets a takedown into Roland's guard.
Roland can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Allen controls the pace.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Allen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Allen sitting in guard here, content to control.
It looks like Allen might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Let's hope that Allen has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Allen with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Allen advances to half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Roland is trying to control but Allen manages to pass to mount!

Allen manages to capitalize on a mistake by Roland to take his back!
Roland might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Allen biding his time, looking for the opening.

Roland trying to control the hands but Allen won't let him.

Allen is persistently looking for the submission but Roland is defending it well.
Allen is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Allen doesn't have the hooks in and Roland manages to turn into his guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Roland is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Allen is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Allen has escaped and now he's on top!

Allen controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Allen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Allen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Allen is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Roland working a defensive guard but Allen manages to pass into side control anyway.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Zane Allen dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Roland throws a sloppy head kick and Allen moves out of range easily.

Allen moves into the clinch.
Roland misses with a body punch.
Allen has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Roland stalling in the clinch but Allen improves position.
Allen wants to take the fight to the mat but Roland manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Allen blocking some punches.
Roland tries to work over Allen's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Allen pulls Roland into guard.
Allen is pulling down on Roland's head. It's preventing any offense from Roland, at least for the moment.
Allen is continuing to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Allen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Roland's guard.


That's one minute gone in the round.
Allen is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Roland has an active guard here but Allen has managed to pass into half guard.

Allen is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Allen not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Allen is working for a kimura but Roland is defending it quite comfortably.

Allen decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Roland thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Allen if he has to take too many more of those.
Allen darts in looking for a takedown but Roland gets double underhooks and turns Allen into the cage.
Roland lands with a slapping head kick.
Roland feints and then cracks Allen's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Allen down.

Allen drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Allen remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Allen is breathing heavily.

Allen gets to mount! Roland was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Allen looking to secure an arm triangle but Roland defends it well.
Zane Allen has got the better of the ground game so far.
Roland tries to improve his position but instead Allen has taken his back!

Roland is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Allen really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Roland.

Roland rolls, trying to escape but Allen keeps control of the position.
Allen throwing sloppy strikes.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Roland is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Allen slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Zane Allen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Allen throws a right and a left that Roland avoids nicely.
Roland throws a push kick but Allen slaps the foot to one side.

Allen closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Allen is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Roland looking for a sweep but Allen has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Allen goes for an armbar but Roland turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Roland.

Roland wants to pass the guard but Allen is keeping the position.
Roland looking to sit in guard and control but Allen gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Allen passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Allen in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Allen tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Roland wants to control but Allen postures up.
The referee asks Allen politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Allen prefers to stall for the moment though.

Allen decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Zed Roland has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Allen takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Allen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Roland lands with a thumping leg kick.
Roland throws a nice inside leg kick.

Allen moves into the clinch.
Roland is trying to break the clinch but Allen is controlling him.
Roland is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Allen blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Roland tries a body shot but Allen blocks it.
Roland doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Zane Allen is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Roland misses with a shot to the kidneys.

And that's the end of the fight!
Zane Allen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Allen winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
