PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Greene (ranked 1040 p4p, 2166 weight class) and Jake Rodrigues (ranked 74 p4p, 150 weight class). Greene comes to the cage accompanied by Stepdad- Eminem. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Rodrigues!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Shirou Masuda and Hirohito Nitta.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Greene misses with a few strikes there.
Rodrigues let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Rodrigues tries to land a leg kick but Greene saw it coming and moves away.
Rodrigues throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Greene on the side of the head.
Rodrigues misses with a low kick as Greene jumps back.
Rodrigues stuffs the takedown.
Greene lands a nice hook to Rodrigues's body. Rodrigues takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Greene has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

and Greene counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Greene wants to control from the top but Rodrigues keeps moving.
Greene is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Greene pushes down on Rodrigues's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Greene is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rodrigues is just riding it out for now. Greene eventually gives up the hold.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Greene is looking to take a break and control but Rodrigues is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Greene is trying to control the action in half guard but Rodrigues is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Rodrigues swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Greene wants to control from the top but Rodrigues keeps moving.
Greene is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Rodrigues is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Greene controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Rodrigues throws a good cross that connects.
Greene takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Greene misses with a wild body shot.
Rodrigues throws a shot from downtown. Greene moves away and avoids it.
Greene feinted with a counter takedown.

and Greene counters with a single leg into guard. Rodrigues didn't expect that.
Greene slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rodrigues is not content to let Greene control the position.
Rodrigues is looking to regain half guard here but Greene keeps moving and retains side control.

Greene is working to tighten his grip on Rodrigues's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Rodrigues has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Greene is really squeezing tight and eventually Rodrigues passes out! Greene breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
