PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gatimu Wanjiku (ranked 3025 p4p, 3315 weight class) and Joku Nimi (ranked 368 p4p, 393 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wanjiku misses with a jab to the body
and Nimi counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Wanjiku misses with a left hand
and Nimi connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Wanjiku punishes Nimi's body with a nice straight punch.
Wanjiku takes a swing at Nimi's ribcage but misses.
Wanjiku misses with a leg kick
and Nimi connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Wanjiku catches Nimi with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Nimi uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Wanjiku.

Wanjiku definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Wanjiku fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Nimi.
Wanjiku throws a front kick aimed at Nimi's knee but Nimi avoids it well.
Nimi was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Sloppy strikes from Wanjiku. Those never looked like landing.
Nimi looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Wanjiku throws a hook to the side of Nimi's head but Nimi sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Wanjiku lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Nimi at a distance.
A swing and a miss from Wanjiku.
Nimi has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Wanjiku.
Wanjiku just misses with a punch to the body.
Wanjiku throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Nimi stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Nimi looks to throw the jab but Wanjiku is out of range.
Nimi moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
That kick from Wanjiku tenderised Nimi's leg. Nimi is trying to keep his angry face on.
Wanjiku is looking to wear down Nimi with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Wanjiku lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Nimi circles away quickly and effectively.
Nimi swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Wanjiku dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Nimi takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Wanjiku cracks Nimi with a right hand to the side of the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Nimi! But no joy.
A nice inside leg kick there by Wanjiku. That's going to slow Nimi down.

A looping hook to the body misses from Wanjiku. Nimi does a little dance to reset his feet.
Nimi steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Wanjiku. That one must have hurt.
Wanjiku throws a right and a left that both miss.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Nimi checks a leg kick.
Nimi feints a counter leg kick.
Wanjiku ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Nimi keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Wanjiku scores with a leg kick.
Wanjiku lands a jab to the nose.
Wanjiku loads up on a big right hand but Nimi slips the punch.
Nimi let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Wanjiku tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Nimi was well out of range. Poor timing from Wanjiku.
Wanjiku jabs Nimi right on the nose. Nimi blinks but takes it well.
Wanjiku throws a leg kick
and Nimi counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Wanjiku misses the shot to the body.
Wanjiku backing away here, and Nimi unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
Wanjiku connects with a good right hand that stumbles Nimi. Nimi circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Wanjiku pivots, looking for a leg kick but Nimi is out of range and Wanjiku settles back down.
Nimi blocks a jab.
Nimi steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Wanjiku.
Nimi is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.
Wanjiku throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Jab, jab by Wanjiku - just one landing.
Wanjiku throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A jab from Wanjiku finds it's way through Nimi's defenses.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Wanjiku falls off balance throwing a combination

Nimi misses with a low kick as Wanjiku jumps back.

Wanjiku ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

and Nimi counters with a nice uppercut.
Nimi has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.

Wanjiku ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A little jabbing left from Nimi on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Nimi drops his hands momentarily and Wanjiku takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Wanjiku connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Nimi ducks right into an uppercut from Wanjiku.

Wanjiku fakes the leg kick and throws a superman punch. It's knocked Nimi out cold! Brutal finish!
