PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Maruim Silva (ranked 2747 p4p, 22253 weight class) and Damian Dilbrandt (ranked 328 p4p, 493 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maruim Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Damian Dilbrandt!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Marco Blurström.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dilbrandt circles away.
Silva throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dilbrandt's waist but Dilbrandt gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Silva off to one side.
Some wild striking there from Dilbrandt.
Silva fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Dilbrandt avoids it really well and circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Maruim Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dilbrandt throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Dilbrandt gets tackled into the cage by Silva. Silva maintains the clinch.
Silva is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silva fails to pull guard.
Dilbrandt throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Dilbrandt escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Dilbrandt gets tackled into the cage by Silva. Silva maintains the clinch.
Silva tries to score a body lock takedown but Dilbrandt shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Dilbrandt lands with a short punch from the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Silva prevents a body shot from Dilbrandt.
Silva has a couple of punches blocked by Dilbrandt.
Dilbrandt stalling against the cage.
Silva struggles to land a body shot inside as Dilbrandt controls his hands.
Dilbrandt lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Silva wants the takedown. Dilbrandt is fighting it off but Silva persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Dilbrandt's guard against the cage.

Silva drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Silva jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Silva advances position into side control!

Silva tries for a kimura but Dilbrandt is defending well.
Dilbrandt tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Silva wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Silva working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Dilbrandt prevents Silva from improving position.

Silva has hold of Dilbrandt's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Dilbrandt seems comfortable defending it but Silva has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Dilbrandt is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Dilbrandt is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Silva couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Maruim Silva!
A relieved looking Maruim Silva thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
