The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendoza throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Nielson tries to counter with a takedown but Mendoza is quick to defend against it.

Mendoza bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Mendoza is looking to regain half guard here but Nielson keeps moving and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nielson works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Mendoza tries to bench press Nielson off him but Nielson keeps the position.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mendoza is on top in guard.

Mendoza stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nielson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Mendoza has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Nielson to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Mendoza is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Nielson pulls down on the head and he's put Mendoza to sleep! This one is all over!
