The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powers slips a jab and a cross from Cruz.
Cruz stuffs the takedown.
Cruz fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Powers takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Cruz rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Powers moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Cruz misses with a jab, cross combination.
Cruz throws a right and a left that Powers avoids nicely.
Cruz keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Powers closes the distance and clinches up with Cruz, looking for a takedown. Powers pushes Cruz against the cage but Cruz circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Kaleo Cruz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Max Powers.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Powers is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Powers is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Cruz's shoulder. That is not cool.

Powers wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cruz, who protects the arm well.

Powers has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Cruz is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Powers yanks on the arm and Cruz is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Powers.
