PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Doo Ho Choi (ranked 5148 p4p, 4283 weight class) and Frans Kronstedth (ranked 375 p4p, 328 weight class). Choi comes to the cage accompanied by Superman. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Doo Ho Choi !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Frans Kronstedth!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kronstedth throws the left hand but Choi avoids the punch easily.
As Kronstedth looks to move away, Choi throws a big counter combo but Kronstedth just gets out of the way.
Choi scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Good exchange - Kronstedth coming out on top.
Kronstedth defending well as Choi loads up on a big left hand.

Choi drives through and clinches with Kronstedth against the cage.
Choi tries to land a knee to the head but Kronstedth blocks with his arms.

Kronstedth's coach down at The Tank Factory was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Kronstedth's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Choi wants the takedown. Kronstedth is fighting it off but Choi persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Kronstedth's guard against the cage.

Kronstedth has his foot on Choi 's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Choi works his way back into a safe position though.

Kronstedth is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Choi gets his way!

Choi has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.
