PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Enakpodia Igwe (ranked 3579 p4p, 3001 weight class) and Sergio Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 336 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Enakpodia Igwe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sergio Rodriguez!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Igwe keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
A left lands for Igwe.
A slow jab from Igwe misses its intended target.
Rodriguez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Igwe is fending him off so far but Rodriguez persists. Nope, Igwe circles away and we're back to standing.
Rodriguez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Igwe tries to avoid it but Rodriguez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Igwe to the ground. Igwe escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
An attempted straight right counter from Igwe misses the target.
Enakpodia Igwe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sergio Rodriguez.
Igwe blocks a head kick by Rodriguez.
Rodriguez fails to land the takedown.
Rodriguez avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Igwe throws a jab when Rodriguez was well out of range.
Rodriguez throws a big counter head kick but Igwe avoids it with no problem.
Nice defenses there by Rodriguez.
Igwe misses with a looping right.

Igwe clinches up against the cage.
Igwe misses with the head strike.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rodriguez jumps guard but Igwe stands there with Rodriguez around his waist. Rodriguez gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Igwe is pushing Rodriguez up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Rodriguez pulls guard effortlessly.
Rodriguez is trying to control the position but Igwe postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Igwe is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Igwe has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rodriguez is proving hard to escape from.
Igwe has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Igwe sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Igwe tries to free his leg and advance position but Rodriguez is retaining full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Igwe throws a hook but Rodriguez blocks it.
A nice side step and Rodriguez releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Igwe misses with a left hand
and Rodriguez counters with a body kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rodriguez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Igwe sprawls well. Igwe wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rodriguez gets slowly back to his feet.
Rodriguez uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Igwe.
Rodriguez wants to counter the offense by Igwe and move into the clinch position.
Rodriguez fails with the takedown.
Nice uppercut lands for Igwe. That snapped Rodriguez's head back.
Igwe is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Rodriguez looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Igwe definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Igwe looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Igwe sends Rodriguez crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Igwe is motioning to the referee to let Rodriguez up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!

Rodriguez is rocked!

It looks like Sergio Rodriguez has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rodriguez tries to get into range but Igwe steps to the side and lands a beautiful hook that drops Rodriguez! He's faceplanted into the mat, ass in the air... he's out cold! That's an image he won't want to show his grandkids when he gets older! Igwe scores the big KO victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Enakpodia Igwe!
