PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between D.D Panda (ranked 892 p4p, 920 weight class) and Tristan St. Gough (ranked 134 p4p, 140 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, D.D Panda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tristan St. Gough!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Panda tries to keep at a distance but St. Gough has taken the fight into the clinch.
Panda looking to stall.
Panda tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
St. Gough throws a punch but it's blocked by Panda.

We've been informed that St. Gough has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Panda tries to pull guard but St. Gough won't allow it.
St. Gough tries to work over Panda's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Panda fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Panda jumps guard but St. Gough turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Panda is looking to control St. Gough's arms but St. Gough gets an underhook and turns him. Now Panda has his back to the cage.
I was talking to Panda's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

St. Gough stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Panda swivels though and keeps the full guard.
St. Gough is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

A momentary lapse in concentration from St. Gough enables Panda to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. St. Gough manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

St. Gough pushes Panda away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Panda gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
St. Gough tests Panda's chin there with a solid looking shot.

It looks like D.D Panda has been cut.
St. Gough tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Panda takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
St. Gough swings for the body but Panda moves out of range.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

No joy there for St. Gough, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Panda takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

St. Gough has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Panda is proving hard to escape from.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The referee is keeping an eye on St. Gough - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Tristan St. Gough decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
