PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Oppenheimer (ranked 3002 p4p, 24630 weight class) and Fred Howe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Oppenheimer's entrance music is Never, Never Gonna Give Ya Up. A fine choice. Howe has chosen New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle as his entrance music. Fred Howe looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bobby Oppenheimer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fred Howe!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howe goes for a double leg but Oppenheimer avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Oppenheimer continues to drive forward.
Howe looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Oppenheimer feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Howe manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Oppenheimer manages to get himself to full guard.


Oppenheimer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Howe doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Howe manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Oppenheimer thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Oppenheimer controls Howe momentarily but Howe frees himself.
Howe wants to control from the top but Oppenheimer keeps moving.
Oppenheimer is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Oppenheimer is on top in guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Howe throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Oppenheimer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Howe swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Oppenheimer closes the distance and clinches.

Oppenheimer has Howe pressed against the cage, preventing Howe from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Oppenheimer is trying to break the clinch but Howe is controlling him.
Nice body punch from Oppenheimer - that landed with a thud.
Howe prevents a takedown attempt there.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Howe is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Oppenheimer pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Bobby Oppenheimer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fred Howe.

Howe goes for a takedown in the clinch but Oppenheimer prevents it.
Oppenheimer throws a knee to the head but misses.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

so Howe counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Oppenheimer wants to sweep here but Howe controlling him for the moment.
Howe is fighting to break Oppenheimer's control of his arms but Oppenheimer is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Howe stops Oppenheimer from standing up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Oppenheimer is trying to keep Howe in close.

Oppenheimer is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Oppenheimer is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Howe jumps into guard, dragging Oppenheimer to the mat.

Oppenheimer lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Oppenheimer tries for a takedown but Howe sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Oppenheimer is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Howe can do to turn this around?

Oppenheimer has closed the distance and engaged Howe in a clinch.

Howe manages to break the clinch.
Oppenheimer goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Oppenheimer tries a head kick but it misses.
Howe misses with a takedown attempt - Oppenheimer sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Oppenheimer throws a right and a left that Howe avoids nicely.
Oppenheimer closes the distance and clinches up with Howe, looking for a takedown. Oppenheimer pushes Howe against the cage but Howe circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Howe shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Oppenheimer napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Oppenheimer pushes Howe away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Howe gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Oppenheimer struggling a bit here.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Oppenheimer throws a sloppy head kick and Howe moves out of range easily.
No luck for Oppenheimer with that takedown attempt.
Howe throws a big counter head kick but Oppenheimer avoids it with no problem.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Oppenheimer slaps away a takedown attempt from Howe, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Oppenheimer works over Howe's head and body with a nice combination.

It looks like Fred Howe has been cut.
Howe swats away the attempt to clinch by Oppenheimer.
Howe takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Howe has Oppenheimer pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Howe pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Oppenheimer tumbling to the mat - Howe dives into Oppenheimer's guard.

Howe rushes Oppenheimer and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Oppenheimer wants to get back to striking at distance but Howe won't allow it.
Howe managing to block the knees to the body from Oppenheimer.

Oppenheimer lands a body shot.
Oppenheimer is trying to stall.
Howe taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Oppenheimer trying to control the position but instead, Howe has worked for underhooks and has pushed Oppenheimer into the cage.
Howe tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Oppenheimer just stands there and leans against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bobby Oppenheimer.
Well Oppenheimer has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
