PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tony Stewart (ranked 4316 p4p, 4317 weight class) and Dominic Mowrey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tony Stewart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dominic Mowrey!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mowrey moves into the clinch.
Mowrey goes for a takedown in the clinch but Stewart prevents it.

Mowrey's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Stewart slaps away a takedown attempt from Mowrey, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mowrey looks for a takedown but Stewart sprawls well.
Tony Stewart has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dominic Mowrey.
Mowrey doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Stewart counters with a head kick that drops Mowrey to the mat! Mowrey scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!

Mowrey takes the fight into the clinch.
Stewart is working for takedown but Mowrey is calmly controlling the position for now.

Mowrey pulls guard successfully.
Stewart wants to control from the top but Mowrey keeps moving.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mowrey holds on and takes a little breather.
Mowrey wants to hit a sweep here but Stewart passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Mowrey there!

Stewart has gone for a leg lock! Mowrey slips out almost immediately though and dives into Stewart's guard.

Stewart controls Mowrey momentarily but Mowrey frees himself.

Stewart throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Mowrey escapes and throws Stewart's legs to the side, diving into side control!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Stewart tries to improve position but can't.

Mowrey decides to stand back up. Mowrey steps back and let's Stewart get back to his feet.
Stewart swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Mowrey counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Mowrey.

Mowrey successfully pulls guard.
Stewart is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Mowrey lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Stewart is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Stewart is looking to stand back up but Mowrey counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Stewart.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dominic Mowrey dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Stewart bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Stewart tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mowrey sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Stewart somewhat.

and Stewart counters with a three punch combo that has Mowrey backing up. Mowrey nods at Stewart to acknowledge the strikes.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Stewart tries to move to mount but Mowrey blocks the move with his legs.
Mowrey is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.

Stewart wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mowrey keeps working.

Stewart wants to stand but Mowrey has his arm trapped.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Stewart has a takedown stuffed.
Stewart tries for a takedown but Mowrey sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Stewart throws a leg kick which misses Mowrey's front leg but catches the back leg as Mowrey tries to avoid it.
Mowrey should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Stewart tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mowrey swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Mowrey changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Stewart tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mowrey manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Mowrey gets caught napping as Stewart dives in and scores a takedown. Mowrey manages to retain guard.

Mowrey manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Stewart misses with a low kick.
Stewart shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mowrey as he jumps to the side.

and Mowrey moves into the clinch.

Mowrey looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mowrey can't keep his opponent in guard - Stewart advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Mowrey is looking for a sweep. Stewart is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Stewart wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mowrey keeps working.
Stewart tries to pass to full mount but Mowrey defends it.
Mowrey wants to get back to full guard.
Mowrey has hold of Stewart's hands but Stewart slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Mowrey wants to get back to his feet.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Mowrey has eaten all the pies!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Stewart is looking to stall here but Mowrey recovers full guard.
Stewart tries to free his leg and advance position but Mowrey is retaining full guard.
Stewart trying to control the position from guard on top but Mowrey is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Mowrey escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Stewart gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mowrey takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Stewart wants to control from the top but Mowrey keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stewart fails in his attempt to clinch.
Mowrey drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Stewart defends it well.
The fight stays on the outside here - Stewart looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Mowrey fails to land the takedown.
Stewart tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Mowrey will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Stewart tries to counter with a takedown but Mowrey is quick to defend against it.

A frustrated look appears on Stewart's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Stewart throws a knee to the head but misses.

Mowrey pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Stewart misses with a head kick.
Mowrey stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mowrey wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tony Stewart. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Stewart will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mowrey doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Stewart counters with a series of strikes. Mowrey will be more careful next time no doubt.

Stewart drives through with a takedown into guard.
Stewart is standing up over Mowrey. Mowrey looks to escape but Stewart dives into side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mowrey is not content to let Stewart control the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tony Stewart.
I think Stewart has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
