PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Pilin Hernandez (ranked 4255 p4p, 4266 weight class) and Jerryboy Butler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Pilin Hernandez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jerryboy Butler!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Josh West and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Butler drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Hernandez connects with a good right hand that stumbles Butler. Butler circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Hernandez connects with a crisp jab.
Butler fails to land the takedown.
Hernandez lands an overhand right.
Hernandez misses with a body shot.
Butler wants to counter with a clinch but Hernandez pushes him away.
A left lands for Hernandez.
Hernandez works the jab nicely.
Hernandez lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Butler at a distance.
Hernandez dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Butler shoots for a takedown but Hernandez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Butler takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Butler throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hernandez was covering up waiting for the punch and Butler finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Hernandez is wriggling around but Butler manages to pass to half guard.

Butler seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hernandez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hernandez keeping hold of Butler's head, controlling as best he can.
Butler not doing much here.
Hernandez is trying to control but can't.
Hernandez tries to kick Butler off but Butler keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Hernandez on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hernandez tries to get out of the position.
Butler is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Butler lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Butler wants to stand but Hernandez has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Butler wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hernandez keeps working.
Butler perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Hernandez tries to roll over but Butler keeps him under control.

Hernandez is defending against the submission attempts here by Butler.
Nice strikes from Butler there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Butler passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Hernandez!
Butler content just to control the position here.
Hernandez is trying to stand.
Butler is landing with some decent strikes but Hernandez is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Hernandez tries to lock up and control but Butler gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Butler looking to secure an arm triangle but Hernandez defends it well.
Butler pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Hernandez is desperately trying to improve his position but Butler has a good base and remains in mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Butler is looking to stand but Hernandez has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.

Butler is working for a guillotine from mount but Hernandez frees his head quite easily.
Hernandez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Butler on the ground.
Butler avoids the attempt from Hernandez to control.

Butler looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Butler controlling the pace for now.
Hernandez really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Pilin Hernandez will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Butler takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Butler looks to land a body kick but Hernandez moved away.
Hernandez lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
A cross from Hernandez lands.
Hernandez paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Hernandez lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Hernandez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Butler.
Hernandez takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Hernandez throws a shot to the body.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Butler misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Hernandez punishes Butler's body with a nice straight punch.
Hernandez fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Hernandez connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Pilin Hernandez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Butler takes one on the button.

Butler is rocked!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hernandez throws a shot to the body.
Butler is still on wobbly legs! Can Hernandez finish him?
Butler is breathing heavily.
Hernandez is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Butler flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Butler is out cold! Hernandez holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:07 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Pilin Hernandez!
