PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight kickboxing rules bout between Miguel Cotto (ranked 3485 p4p, 4075 weight class) and Randy Turpin (ranked 404 p4p, 451 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Miguel Cotto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Randy Turpin!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Nard Betker and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turpin throws a right hand that misses
and Cotto counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Cotto walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Turpin's coach down at Ocean Ripples was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Turpin's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Turpin misses with a left hand
and Cotto counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Turpin lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Cotto at a distance.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Cotto throws an overhand right that lands on Turpin's shoulder, as Turpin tries to avoid the shot.
Cotto throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Turpin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

It looked like Cotto wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Cotto takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Randy Turpin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cotto takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Turpin swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Cotto has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Cotto there as he acknowledges the shot.

Turpin throws a hook to the side of Cotto's head but Cotto sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Cotto is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

and Cotto makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

It looks like Cotto has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Turpin scores with the left hand. Cotto knows he should have avoided that one.
Turpin shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Cotto eats them both and turns towards Turpin to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Turpin might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Turpin moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Cotto takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Cotto counters with a beautiful hook that drops Turpin to the mat! Will Turpin be able to recover his senses? The referee starts the count at 3 having sent Cotto to a neutral corner. 4,5,6 and Turpin is up. He looks OK to continue.
Turpin feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Cottos jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

It looked like Cotto was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Turpin.

Turpin walks straight into a perfectly timed right hook, crumpling him to the floor! Turpin is in all kinds of trouble here - can he beat the count? 3,4,5,6,7,8,9....10 - he's out and it's by a long way too - he didn't ever look like beating that count!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch). Miguel Cotto!
A relieved looking Miguel Cotto thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
