PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Miocic (ranked 2060 p4p, 3021 weight class) and Ripley West (ranked 240 p4p, 357 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ripley West!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, John Kavanagh and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
West avoids the head kick by Miocic.
Miocic throws a leg kick that misses.
West moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
West is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Miocic.
The fighters circling - Miocic throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Miocic throws a wild body kick that West sees coming a mile off.

It looks like Jon Miocic has been cut.

We've been hearing good reports from Miocic's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
West is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Miocic asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Miocic uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by West.

West smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

As West tries to get set, Miocic tries to push him back and clinch up but West manages to avoid the attempt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

West has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

West is adopting a defensive guard.
Miocic stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. West swivels though and keeps the full guard.

West keeping moving, preventing Miocic from controlling successfully.
West wants to get back to his feet but Miocic is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Miocic goes for a double leg but West avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as West continues to drive forward.

West batters Miocic with a massive right followed by a huge left! Miocic is out on his feet looking like a zombie as West lands a final crushing right hand to drop Miocic to the mat with a gruesome thud! West is running around like a mad man after that fight and for good reason!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Ripley West!
A less than humble Ripley West misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
