PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Robbie Lyle (ranked 3623 p4p, 4823 weight class) and Max Williams (ranked 418 p4p, 487 weight class). Lyle comes into the arena with Don't Sniff The Coke blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Robbie Lyle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Max Williams!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Matti Vanhoillinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Williams gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Lyle to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Lyle pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Williams is keeping the position for now.
Williams keeping moving, preventing Lyle from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lyle throwing strikes but missing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Williams stuffs the takedown attempt from Lyle. Lyle gets slowly back to his feet.
Lyle shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Williams as he avoids it easily.
Lyle shoots in for a double leg but Williams sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Lyle looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lyle is looking for a kimura but Williams is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lyle to get the leverage.
Lyle could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Lyle is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Lyle seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Williams does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Lyle seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Williams for as long as he can get away with.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Lyle's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Williams is trying to escape the mount.

Lyle is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Williams can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Lyle wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Williams tries to reverse the position but Lyle maintains control.

Lyle moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Williams has worked his arm free - good work by Williams!
Lyle wants to control but Williams is keeping him busy.

Lyle is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Williams knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Lyle wants to lay and pray for a moment but Williams keeps working.

Williams is not content to let Lyle control the position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Williams is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Lyle off and has taken his back!
Lyle just trying to survive but Williams is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Williams looking to hold on to the position here but Lyle rolls and ends up regaining guard.
Williams must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Williams has gone for a leg lock! Lyle slips out almost immediately though and dives into Williams's guard.
