PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Amri Mbeki (ranked 1851 p4p, 2172 weight class) and Solomon Pruitt (ranked 212 p4p, 249 weight class). Mbeki comes to the cage accompanied by Where The Hood At. Pruitt is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Singularity - By: DL Incognito. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Amri Mbeki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Solomon Pruitt!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Atkins and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pruitt defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mbeki.
Mbeki has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Gold Samurai's Gym in the buildup to the fight.
Pruitt throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Mbeki.

It looks like Amri Mbeki has been cut.
Mbeki fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Pruitt. No joy for Mbeki on that attempt.
Mbeki avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Mbeki looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Pruitt scores with a jab to the jaw.
Pruitt lands with a hook. Mbeki tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Mbeki closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Pruitt quickly recovers to half guard.

Pruitt wants to improve his position but Mbeki is controlling well.

Pruitt looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Mbeki perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Mbeki is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Pruitt trying to control but Mbeki postures up.

Pruitt wants to get back to full guard.
Pruitt is pressing down on Mbeki's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Mbeki wants to stand but Pruitt is controlling his posture from full guard.
Mbeki throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Pruitt works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Mbeki trying to control the position from guard on top but Pruitt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Pruitt looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mbeki throwing strikes but missing.

Mbeki thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Pruitt looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Mbeki is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Pruitt is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Pruitt has escaped and now he's on top!


Mbeki looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Mbeki not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mbeki manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pruitt manages to get himself to full guard.

Mbeki slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Pruitt is looking to reverse the position.
Mbeki is looking to take a break and control but Pruitt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Pruitt wants to improve his position but Mbeki is controlling well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mbeki is looking for a kimura but Pruitt is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mbeki to get the leverage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pruitt tries to get to full guard but Mbeki has control of the leg.
Mbeki is keen to just control but Pruitt is a slippery customer.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Amri Mbeki will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

A shot to the liver by Pruitt. Beautiful body shot.
Pruitt throws a poor cross that misses
and Mbeki counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Mbeki throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pruitt's waist but Pruitt gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mbeki off to one side.
Pruitt is looking to chop away at Mbeki's legs.

Mbeki shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Pruitt is trying to defend but Mbeki finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Mbeki is looking for a kimura but Pruitt is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mbeki to get the leverage.
Pruitt is looking to control Mbeki's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Pruitt avoid being mounted?
Pruitt is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mbeki postures up in Pruitt's guard and throws a big left but Pruitt blocks it.
Pruitt seems keen to control Mbeki's posture.

Pruitt is looking for a triangle here but Mbeki uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Mbeki is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pruitt is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Mbeki throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Mbeki lands a few punches from side control.

Mbeki tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Pruitt reaches up around Mbeki's neck trying to control. But Mbeki takes advantage instantly and he's locked on an arm triangle! Big trouble for Pruitt! Oh that looks nasty! A human being's head is not meant to turn that color! Pruitt is out! He's gone limp! The ref steps in to break the fighters up and Mbeki celebrates the victory with the fans!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Amri Mbeki!
