PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Zark Muckerberg (ranked 1821 p4p, 5760 weight class) and Chalong Kitjakarn (ranked 247 p4p, 556 weight class). Kitjakarn is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Three Little Birds (Dub). Chalong Kitjakarn told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Zark Muckerberg!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chalong Kitjakarn!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Felipe Paraventi and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Muckerberg just misses with a punch to the body.
Muckerberg scores with a jab to the head.
Muckerberg connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Kitjakarn clinches up against the ropes.
A head punch on the inside from Muckerberg fails to land.
Muckerberg blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Muckerberg.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Kitjakarn.
Kitjakarn is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Muckerberg is defending well for now.
I was talking to Muckerberg's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kitjakarn tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Muckerberg avoids it.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Kitjakarn has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Kitjakarn tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Kitjakarn tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Muckerberg scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Kitjakarn tries to work over Muckerberg's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Kitjakarn is pressed up against the ropes. Muckerberg has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kitjakarn down to the mat. Kitjakarn avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Kitjakarn is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Kitjakarn tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Muckerberg misses with a lunging right hand
and Kitjakarn cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Muckerberg moves in looking to clinch but Kitjakarn pushes him off.
Kitjakarn slips a jab from Muckerberg.
It seemed like Kitjakarn was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Kitjakarn on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Kitjakarn clinches up with Muckerberg and pushes him back against the ropes.
Kitjakarn misses with a punch to the body.
Muckerberg is trying to pull guard but Kitjakarn turns him against the ropes and we stay in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zark Muckerberg. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kitjakarn must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Muckerberg has his foot on Kitjakarn's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kitjakarn works his way back into a safe position though.
Muckerberg bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kitjakarn's guard.

Muckerberg is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Kitjakarn wants to get back to his feet but Muckerberg is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Kitjakarn wants to stand up but Muckerberg is controlling him.
Kitjakarn is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Kitjakarn wants to get back to his feet but Muckerberg is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Muckerberg is pushing down on Kitjakarn's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kitjakarn is fighting to maintain full guard but Muckerberg has managed to sneak the leg through.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kitjakarn can do anything to dispel that myth.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Muckerberg seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kitjakarn does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Kitjakarn is kicking away at Muckerberg from the bottom - trying to push off and stand up. Muckerberg grabs hold of a leg and drops back for a heel hook! The two fighters roll across the mat, with Kitjakarn trying to push Muckerberg off... Kitjakarn taps! He's tapped! This one is all over! A throwback to the old Pancrase there with an infrequently seen submission hold! Nice work.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Heel Hook). Zark Muckerberg!
