PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chief Walker (ranked 2004 p4p, 3891 weight class) and Yoji Anjo Anjo (ranked 270 p4p, 449 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chief Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 30 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yoji Anjo Anjo!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Wagner Zegers and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice defenses there by Anjo.
Anjo is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

Walker throws the left hand but Anjo avoids the punch easily.
Walker scores with a decent looking hook.

Walker gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Anjo to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Anjo wants to control from the top but Walker keeps moving.
Walker is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Anjo shoots in and drives through. Walker sprawls well.

Anjo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Walker to the mat! Walker manages to get full guard.

Walker manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Walker forces Anjo back against the cage and clinches.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Anjo changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Walker fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Anjo stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Anjo shoots for a double leg takedown but Walker sprawls well. He's pushed Anjo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

The fighters circling - Walker throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Walker throws a lazy right hand but Anjo sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Walker is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Walker loads up on a big right hand but Anjo slips the punch.
Anjo wants to counter with a clinch but Walker pushes him away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Walker walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Anjo moves into the clinch successfully.

Anjo has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Walker has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Anjo with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Anjo tries to break the clinch but Walker is controlling the position.
Anjo tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Walker gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Anjo.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round but I would say that Chief Walker will probably get the nod.

Anjo looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Anjo lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Walker takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Despite the aggression on Anjo's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Anjo goes for a double leg but Walker avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Walker continues to drive forward.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Walker manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Anjo keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Walker, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Chief Walker opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
