PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Karry Mountain (ranked 455 p4p, 1510 weight class) and Rio Gracie (ranked 70 p4p, 201 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Karry Mountain!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Rio Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Paul Aken and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crunch! Mountain slams his shin into Gracie's torso.
Gracie gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Gracie changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mountain tries to avoid it but Gracie manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mountain to the ground. Mountain escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Mountain comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Gracie has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Gracie tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Mountain defends well and Gracie ends up having to push Mountain into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Mountain lands with a cross.
Mountain fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Both fighters circling a little - Mountain finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Gracie on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
We've been told by Mountain's head coaches at Jorzi GYM that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
A punch lands to the side of Gracie 's head but he takes it in his stride.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mountain lands with a kick to the temple. Gracie shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Mountain is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Gracie avoids the body shot from Mountain.
Mountain lands an overhand right.
Karry Mountain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A solid leg kick lands there for Mountain.
Nice body punch from Mountain.
Gracie takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
The fighters circle momentarily. Mountain darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Mountain keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Karry Mountain has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rio Gracie.

Gracie unleashes a big counter combination but Mountain bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Gracie takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Gracie takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Gracie moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Mountain jabs Gracie right on the nose. Gracie blinks but takes it well.
Nice body kick there by Mountain.
Gracie takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Mountain fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Gracie.
Mountain thows a body kick. Gracie tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Mountain lands with a right hand.
Mountain lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Mountain takes a swing at Gracie's ribcage but misses.
Mountain is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Mountain cracks Gracie with a good jab.
Mountain connects with a single shot there.
Mountain lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Gracie closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Mountain catches Gracie with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mountain bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Gracie's head backwards.
Mountain throws the left hand but Gracie avoids the punch easily.
Mountain scores with a nice right hand.
Crunch! Mountain slams his shin into Gracie's torso.
Mountain scores with a crisp jab that stopped Gracie in his tracks.
Mountain connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Mountain tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gracie was well out of range. Poor timing from Mountain.
Mountain throws a jab when Gracie was well out of range.
A countering left hand to the body from Gracie misses.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Karry Mountain dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

A decent looking cross lands there for Mountain.
Gracie takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Gracie takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Mountain connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Gracie's hands.
Gracie takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Gracie has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Mountain.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mountain as he avoids it easily.
A low kick lands for Mountain.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Mountain feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Mountain dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Gracie. That did some damage!
Gracie takes a jab right on the kisser.

Mountain fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gracie has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Gracie takes a head kick and keeps coming.
A punch lands to the side of Gracie 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Rio Gracie is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Gracie misses with a takedown attempt
and Mountain counters with a nice body shot.
Gracie is trying desperately to land a takedown but Mountain is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Gracie.

A lazy left from Mountain finds it's target.
Gracie's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Gracie takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Gracie tries to move into range but Mountain moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mountain lands with an uppercut that bounces Gracie off the cage and back into range.

Mountain keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Gracie sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Mountain throws a hook to the side of Gracie's head but Gracie sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Mountain really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Gracie avoids the head kick by Mountain.
As Mountain backs off Gracie throws a huge counter combo but Mountain manages to avoid it all.
Mountain lands with a straight right. Gracie didn't see that one coming.
Gracie has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Mountain.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Mountain looks to score with a jab to the body but Gracie is just out of range.
Gracie swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Gracie takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Mountain moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Mountain lands a nice hook to Gracie's body. Gracie takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Karry Mountain dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Mountain cracks Gracie with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Mountain bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Gracie's head backwards.
Mountain is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gracie can do to turn this around?
Mountain displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gracie.

Mountain explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Gracie avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Despite the aggression on Gracie's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rio Gracie has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Gracie on the wrong end of a nice jab.

Mountain moves into range and connects with a jab.
Mountain lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with each other but Gracie might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Mountain has got the better of the exchanges.
Gracie fails to land the takedown.
Mountain fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Gracie.
Gracie tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mountain sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gracie somewhat.

Gracie on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Mountain. Mountain obviously looking to wear him down.
Gracie tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Mountain counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Gracie is lucky that one didn't land flush.

And that's the end of the fight!
Karry Mountain showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Mountain has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
