PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Brandon Rose (ranked 1455 p4p, 2589 weight class) and Caleb Jones (ranked 124 p4p, 205 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Caleb Jones was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Lou da Vinci and Jorge Garcia.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones throws a right hand that misses
and Rose counters with a stiff right hand.
Jones throws a lazy right hand but Rose sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Jones swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Rose missing with a left hand there. Jones was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Some wild striking there from Rose.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jones closes the distance and clinches.

Jones misses with a punch on the inside.
Rose works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Rose jumps guard and drags Jones to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Rose throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Jones escapes and throws Rose's legs to the side, diving into side control!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rose moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Rose is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jones is aware though and is defending well.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Rose is retaining full guard.

Jones wants to clinch up but Rose keeps it at a distance.
Jones looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Rose throws a series of punches but Jones moves out of range.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch but Rose swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Rose avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
A looping hook to the body misses from Jones. Rose does a little dance to reset his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Jones is looking to clinch.

Rose closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jones to the mat! Jones manages to get full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Jones is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Jones is taking a breather. Rose says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Jones is pressing down on Rose's thigh, looking to free his foot. Rose is holding on for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Jones throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jones throws a hook but Rose blocks it.
Rose was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Jones drives through and clinches with Rose against the cage.
Rose has a couple of punches blocked by Jones.
Jones throws an elbow that misses.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Jones just misses with a elbow thrown towards Rose's brow.

Jones blocks an uppercut.
Rose is trying to stall.
Rose misses with a body punch.
Jones tries to pull guard but Rose won't allow it.

Rose has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Jones regains guard immediately.

Rose drops back looking for a leg! Jones is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jones manages to kick Rose off! Rose jumps back into Jones's guard.

Caleb Jones is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Jones has closed the distance and engaged Rose in a clinch.
Rose tries to pull guard but Jones won't allow it.
Rose avoids the elbow strike from Jones, against the cage.
Jones blocking some punches.
Rose can't get the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brandon Rose. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Rose blocks it with crossed arms.
Rose prevents a body shot from Jones.
Rose tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jones smiles and moves away.
Rose slips under a jab.
It looked like Rose was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

A slow jab from Jones misses its intended target.
Nice uppercut there from Rose.

Jones darts in and clinches Rose up against the cage.
Jones misses with a hook to the ribs.
Rose is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

A head punch blocked on the inside by Jones.
A head punch on the inside from Rose fails to land.
Rose tries to pull guard but Jones holds him up against the cage and eventually Rose drops back down to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jones swings wildly with an uppercut but Rose uses good head movement to avoid it.

Rose wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.

Jones has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Caleb Jones has got the better of the ground game so far.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Rose thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jones's head.

I would just about give that final round to Caleb Jones.
I think Jones has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
