PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carson Tully (ranked 3304 p4p, 3352 weight class) and Jun Fan Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tully comes into the arena with Aztec Tribe - Pistoleros blaring out of the sound system. Lee has chosen Bruce Lee Soundtrack as his entrance music. Jun Fan Lee told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Carson Tully!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jun Fan Lee!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Lee lands a jab to the nose.
Lee darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Lee just misses with a punch to the body.
It looked like Tully wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Lee is looking to clinch but Tully is avoiding it.
Tully tries to counter by clinching up but Lee breaks away and moves out of range.
Lee misses with a body shot
and Tully counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Tully fails with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lee pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Lee fails with an attempt to clinch.
Tully tries to counter with a takedown but Lee is quick to defend against it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lee lands the left hand.
Lee throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Lee tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Tully counters with a left and a right that stings Lee.
Lee tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tully swats him away and circles back towards the center.
As Lee tries to get set, Tully tries to push him back and clinch up but Lee manages to avoid the attempt.
Lee throws a body punch but Tully moves out of range.
Lee looks to clinch
and Tully counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Tully shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
As Tully backs off Lee throws a huge counter combo but Tully manages to avoid it all.
Lee fails in his attempt to clinch.
Tully was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Lee pulls out of a head kick attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tully swats away the attempt to clinch by Lee.
Lee throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Tully counters with a slapping leg kick.
A jab lands there for Lee.
Tully closes the distance and clinches up with Lee, looking for a takedown. Tully pushes Lee against the cage but Lee circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carson Tully. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lee misses with a two punch combination.
Tully is looking to counter the offense by Lee and move into the clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Lee shoots in and gets a takedown into Tully's guard.

Lee stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Lee throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Tully is looking to counter punch.
Lee fails with an attempt to clinch.
Lee throws a body shot but no joy.
Lee with a jab.
Lee tries to clinch up but Tully circles away and keeps his distance.
An attempted straight right counter from Tully misses the target.
Lee throws out a loose jab but Tully uses good head movement to avoid it.
Lee tries to clinch there but Tully circles away.
Lee throws a head kick but Tully moves out of range.

letting Tully counter with a right hand.

and Tully counters with a nice uppercut.
Tully fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
A jab from Tully misses.
Lee tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Tully was well out of range. Poor timing from Lee.
A slow jab from Lee misses its intended target.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jun Fan Lee dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Lee fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Tully ducks under a wild hook from Lee.
Horrible takedown attempt by Tully or perhaps it was just good defense by Lee, which made it look bad.
Lee throws out a counter right but Tully avoids it with no problem.
Lee fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Tully checks it well.
Tully slips a jab from Lee.
Tully swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lee fails with an attempt to clinch.
A little feinted left hand from Tully on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Lee throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Lee has closed the distance and engaged Tully in a clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tully has Lee pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Lee manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Lee is pressed up against the cage. Tully has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Lee down to the mat. Lee avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carson Tully. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lee misses with the combination.
Tully throwing a counter right hand but Lee manages to avoid it.
Lee lands with a right hand.
Jun Fan Lee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lee throws a right hand that Tully ducks under and follows up with a left that Tully also avoids with ease.
Tully was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Lee wants to clinch but Tully slips to the side
and Tully counters with a stiff right hand.

Lee dives in and scores a takedown into Tully's guard.
Lee has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Tully is proving hard to escape from.

Tully throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Lee escapes and throws Tully's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Lee decides to stand back up. Lee steps back and let's Tully get back to his feet.

Lee is looking to clinch.
Lee misses with a looping right.
Tully ducks under a wild hook from Lee.
Lee misses with a wild body shot.
Jun Fan Lee is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Lee pushes Tully up against the cage in a clinch.
Tully wants to take the fight to the mat but Lee manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Lee stops a takedown attempt from Tully.

Tully has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Lee is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Tully is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Lee pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Tully wants to take the fight to the mat but Lee manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Lee has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Lee gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Tully.
Lee content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Tully is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Lee lands a left hand that snaps the head of Tully backwards.

Tully drops down looking for an ankle pick but Lee pulls his leg out and moves away.

Lee wants to clinch up but Tully keeps it at a distance.

Lee drops Tully with a beautiful combination! Tully stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Lee is looking for the KO!

Jun Fan Lee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Lee misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
An attempted straight right counter from Tully misses the target.
Tully shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Oh Tully is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Lee tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tully swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Tully looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Nice jab there from Lee.
Tully slips a jab and a cross from Lee.

A quick step to the side and Tully tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Lee fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A jab lands there for Lee.
Tully is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Lee moves into range and clinches up with Tully.
The referee calls for Lee to work.
Tully has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Lee after a bit of a struggle.

Tully seems to have got his legs back now.

Tully is trying to drag Lee to the mat but Lee just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Tully looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Lee tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Tully paws at him with a jab and circles away.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Lee connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Lee shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Tully's guard.

Lee decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Tully gets tackled into the cage by Lee. Lee maintains the clinch.
Tully is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Lee is defending well.
Carson Tully has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Tully comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jun Fan Lee comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lee has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
