PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Amri Mbeki (ranked 1420 p4p, 1178 weight class) and Orestes Prometheus (ranked 168 p4p, 140 weight class). Mbeki comes into the arena with Intro blaring out of the sound system. Orestes Prometheus will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Amri Mbeki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Orestes Prometheus!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mbeki tries to clinch but Prometheus moves out of range.
Prometheus looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Mbeki cracks Prometheus with a right hand to the side of the head.
Prometheus jabs Mbeki right on the nose. Mbeki blinks but takes it well.
Prometheus ducks under a wild hook from Mbeki.
Mbeki is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

It looks like Orestes Prometheus has been cut.
Nice uppercut there from Prometheus.

Mbeki looking to score a takedown here. Prometheus is defending well but Mbeki drives through and ends up in Prometheus's guard.
Mbeki throwing strikes from guard but Prometheus blocks nicely.
Mbeki trying to control but Prometheus is working from the bottom.
Prometheus is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Mbeki decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nice sprawl there from Prometheus as Mbeki shoots in.
Mbeki shoots in but Prometheus avoids the takedown attempt easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Prometheus! But no joy.
Prometheus takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Mbeki looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

It looks like Amri Mbeki has been cut.
Prometheus lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
A nice leg kick lands there from Prometheus.
A jab from Prometheus misses.
Good shot there by Prometheus.
Mbeki walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Mbeki on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Prometheus. Prometheus obviously looking to wear him down.
Prometheus takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Prometheus lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Prometheus pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mbeki has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Gold Samurai's Gym in the buildup to the fight.

Mbeki is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Prometheus's half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mbeki is trying to work for a kimura but Prometheus is defending well.
Prometheus gets back to full guard.
Mbeki trying to control the position from guard on top but Prometheus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Prometheus pulls Mbeki in close to prevent any damage.
Mbeki might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mbeki throwing strikes but missing.
Prometheus keeping moving, preventing Mbeki from controlling successfully.
Mbeki is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Prometheus is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Mbeki postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Mbeki won't allow Prometheus to sweep him here.
Mbeki trying to control the position from guard on top but Prometheus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Prometheus can do anything to dispel that myth.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Prometheus dips to his left and cracks Mbeki with an uppercut!
Prometheus fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Mbeki.
No luck for Mbeki with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Amri Mbeki. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Prometheus throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Prometheus misses the shot to the body.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mbeki doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Prometheus finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Prometheus lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Prometheus connects with a high kick.
Prometheus is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Mbeki had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush.
Mbeki throws an overhand right that lands on Prometheus's shoulder, as Prometheus tries to avoid the shot.
Prometheus lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Orestes Prometheus dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Prometheus feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Mbeki sprawling to the canvas! Mbeki rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Prometheus finish him?!

Mbeki is still looking wobbly from the end of the last round!
Prometheus fakes the body blow, causing Mbeki to drop his hands! Left hook to the temple! Mbeki goes stiff, and falls face first into the mat. Goodnight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:10 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Orestes Prometheus!
During a confident post fight interview, Orestes Prometheus thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
