PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 23803 p4p, 23756 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wala Sapi has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 38 - 8, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 33 - 35 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Mibangon fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Sapi to the ground. Mibangon is now in Sapi's guard.
Mibangon stays in close to Sapi's body and controls the position.
Sapi is pulling down on Mibangon's head to control his posture.
Mibangon controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mibangon throwing strikes from guard but Sapi blocks nicely.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Sapi displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mibangon.
Mibangon shoots in but Sapi avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Mibangon throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sapi's waist but Sapi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mibangon off to one side.
Sapi tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Minatay Mibangon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sapi gets the takedown into side control.
Mibangon wants to control but Sapi postures up.
Sapi slows the pace down.

Mibangon is trying to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sapi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mibangon as he jumps to the side.

Nice takedown defense from Sapi. No joy for Mibangon on that attempt.
Sapi shoots in looking for a takedown. Mibangon tries to sprawl out of it but Sapi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mibangon manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mibangon tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Sapi manages to circle out of the way.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Minatay Mibangon will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Mibangon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sapi tries to avoid it but Mibangon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sapi to the ground. Sapi escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Sapi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mibangon's guard.
Mibangon is pulling down on Sapi's head to control his posture.
Sapi postures up in Mibangon's guard and throws a big left but Mibangon blocks it.

Sapi seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Sapi slaps away a takedown attempt from Mibangon, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mibangon shoots in and drives through. Sapi sprawls well.

Mibangon shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sapi sprawls well. Sapi wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mibangon gets slowly back to his feet.

Sapi shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mibangon is trying to defend but Sapi finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Mibangon wants to control but Sapi is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sapi in particular looking to stall.

Wala Sapi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Mibangon went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Sapi shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mibangon feinted there with a counter leg kick.

Sapi shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mibangon manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Mibangon has control of Sapi's left arm, preventing Sapi from doing any damage.

Mibangon throws the kick towards the body but Sapi avoids it.
Sapi follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mibangon is trying hard to land a takedown here. Sapi sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Mibangon shoots for a double leg takedown but Sapi sprawls well. He's pushed Mibangon's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Sapi throws a counter combo.

and Sapi counters with a three punch combo that has Mibangon backing up. Mibangon nods at Sapi to acknowledge the strikes.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sapi raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

Wala Sapi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sapi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
