PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rudi Kardi (ranked 1645 p4p, 435 weight class) and Tommy Weismuller (ranked 249 p4p, 68 weight class). Weismuller has chosen Nobody Speak as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Tommy Weismuller enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 2, fighting out of London, Rudi Kardi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tommy Weismuller!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Saam Ante and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Weismuller uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Weismuller scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Kardi doesn't seem bothered though.
Weismuller throws a quick inside leg kick.
Weismuller throws the left hand but Kardi avoids the punch easily.
Weismuller throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Kardi dives in and grabs Weismuller's left leg, looking for a takedown. Weismuller pushes down on Kardi's head and hops out.
Weismuller tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kardi was well out of range. Poor timing from Weismuller.

so Kardi counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Kardi is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Weismuller knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Kardi has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Kardi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Weismuller really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kardi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kardi prevents Weismuller from standing back up.
Kardi thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Weismuller's head.
Weismuller moves into full guard.

Kardi is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Weismuller is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Weismuller has escaped and now he's on top!


Kardi is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Weismuller defends well.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Weismuller misses with a looping right.
Kardi drops down looking for a counter takedown but Weismuller sprawls and moves away.
Weismuller fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Kardi looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Kardi on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kardi changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Kardi bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Weismuller has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Kardi is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Weismuller catches Kardi with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Kardi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Weismuller doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Weismuller manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Rudi Kardi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Weismuller got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kardi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Weismuller has managed to get both his arms back between Kardi's legs - danger averted.

Kardi closes the distance and clinches up with Weismuller, looking for a takedown. Kardi pushes Weismuller against the cage but Weismuller circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

I think Weismuller has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
