Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jim Babcock (ranked 1036 p4p, 1037 weight class) and Stephen Steve (ranked 145 p4p, 146 weight class). Babcock comes to the cage accompanied by San Francisco Live Medley. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jim Babcock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Stephen Steve!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Anni Minnemäki and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Babcock is looking to clinch.
Steve connects with an inside leg kick.
Stephen Steve seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Babcock misses with a kick to the body.
Steve is looking to clinch.
Babcock throws a nice outside leg kick.
Steve is looking to clinch.
Steve throws the left hand but Babcock avoids the punch easily.
Steve lands with a nice combination. Babcock backs away looking to recover.
Steve's coach down at New York Public Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Steve's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Babcock will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A little jabbing left from Steve on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Steve lands with a nice combination. Babcock backs away looking to recover.

Steve darts in and clinches Babcock up against the cage.
Steve swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Steve takes a swing at Babcock's ribcage but misses.
No joy there for Steve, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and Babcock counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Steve is looking to improve his position.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Steve is in all sorts of trouble here.

Babcock thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Babcock has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Steve tries to lock up and control but Babcock gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Babcock fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Steve tries to hold on but Babcock pushes him away.
Babcock has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Steve's face.
Babcock avoids the attempt from Steve to control.
Babcock throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Steve manages to control the position for a moment.
Steve tries to lock up and control but Babcock gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Babcock takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Babcock is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Steve is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Steve is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Steve tries to close the distance and clinch up but Babcock swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Babcock fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Steve manages to avoid it.
Babcock misses with a lunging right hand
and Steve makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Babcock tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Steve feints and then cracks Babcock's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Babcock down.
Steve throws a right and a left that Babcock avoids nicely.
Steve has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Babcock.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Babcock throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Babcock throws the kick towards the body but Steve avoids it.
Steve looks to land a combination. Babcock sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Steve cracks Babcock with a good jab.
Stephen Steve is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A solid leg kick lands there for Steve.
A telegraphed right hand from Babcock misses the target.
Steve was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Babcock fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Steve lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Steve tries to clinch but Babcock is having none of it.

and Steve counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Steve tries to bum rush Babcock with a series of wild strikes but Babcock uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Steve chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Babcock can pounce on him.
Babcock moves out of range of the body kick from Steve.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Babcock.
Steve is looking for the big counter here.

Stephen Steve is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Babcock tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Steve was well out of range. Poor timing from Babcock.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jim Babcock will probably get the nod.

Steve bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Steve leaves Babcock with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Steve lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Steve looks to land a body kick but Babcock moved away.
Babcock drops down looking for a counter takedown but Steve sprawls and moves away.
Steve thumps Babcock with a low kick.
Babcock shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Steve defends it nicely.

Babcock throws a half hearted mid kick.
A punch lands to the side of Babcock 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Babcock takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Babcock closes the distance and clinches up with Steve, looking for a takedown. Babcock pushes Steve against the cage but Steve circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Steve flicks out a counter leg kick but Babcock steps away.

and Steve counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Babcock shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Steve sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Babcock darts in looking for a takedown but Steve gets double underhooks and turns Babcock into the cage.
Babcock misses with a hook to the ribs.
A bit of stalling here from Babcock.
Babcock is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Steve misses with a body punch.
Babcock jumps guard but Steve stands there with Babcock around his waist. Babcock gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Steve misses with the head strike.
I was talking to Babcock's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
A head punch on the inside from Steve fails to land.

Babcock tries to score a body lock takedown but Steve shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Steve lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Babcock blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Steve misses with a punch to the body.
Babcock's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Steve lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Babcock or not.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Steve misses with a short punch on the inside.
Steve is trying to break free.
Steve works on Babcock's body with a couple of short punches.
Steve with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.

It looks like Jim Babcock has been cut.
Babcock tries to stall but Steve uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Steve prevents the takedown attempt.
Steve tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Stephen Steve comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Babcock has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
