PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ranganathan Iyer (ranked 23734 p4p, 23650 weight class) and Justin Edwards (ranked 594 p4p, 590 weight class). Edwards has chosen "A Country Boy Can Survive" by Hank Williams Jr. as his entrance music. Justin Edwards struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 207.0lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Ranganathan Iyer has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Ranganathan Iyer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Justin Edwards!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Bruno Hogan and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Iyer shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Edwards as he jumps to the side.
Iyer wants to clinch
and Edwards counters with a series of strikes. Iyer will be more careful next time no doubt.
Edwards slips a jab and a cross from Iyer.

Edwards darts in and clinches Iyer up against the cage.
Edwards throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Iyer blocks it with crossed arms.
Iyer lands an elbow just above Edwards 's eye.

It looks like Justin Edwards has been cut.
Iyer is pressed up against the cage. Edwards has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Iyer down to the mat. Iyer avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Iyer shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Edwards is trying to defend but Iyer finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Edwards scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Iyer manages to mount him!

Edwards sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

That was a close round but I would say that Ranganathan Iyer will probably get the nod.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Iyer lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Edwards has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Edwards and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Iyer shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Edwards pinned against the cage. Edwards gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Despite the aggression on Edwards's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Iyer tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Edwards paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Iyer is looking to land body kicks.

Edwards tries to pull guard but Iyer holds him up against the cage and eventually Edwards drops back down to his feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Edwards decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Edwards dives in and grabs Iyer's left leg, looking for a takedown. Iyer pushes down on Edwards's head and hops out.
Edwards tries for a takedown but Iyer sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Horrible takedown attempt by Iyer or perhaps it was just good defense by Edwards, which made it look bad.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Edwards looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
