Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Esponosa (ranked 3939 p4p, 1218 weight class) and Julian Diaz (ranked 405 p4p, 161 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ricardo Esponosa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Julian Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Joseph Jones and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz with a nice cross.
Diaz looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Diaz throws a shot to the body.

Esponosa closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Esponosa lands in his opponent's guard.
Esponosa is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Esponosa postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Diaz keeping moving, preventing Esponosa from controlling successfully.

Esponosa slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Diaz trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Esponosa trying to control but Diaz is working from the bottom.
Esponosa prevents Diaz from getting back to his feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Diaz ducks under a wild hook from Esponosa.
Esponosa moves away from the strike by Diaz.
Diaz dips to his left and cracks Esponosa with an uppercut!
Diaz blocks a jab.
Esponosa is looking to clinch but Diaz is avoiding it.
Diaz loads up on a big right hand but Esponosa slips the punch.
Esponosa lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Diaz connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Esponosa momentarily.
Diaz moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Diaz throws a big shot that misses.
Esponosa changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Diaz tries to avoid it but Esponosa manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Diaz to the ground. Diaz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Diaz swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Esponosa ducks under a wild hook from Diaz.

Esponosa looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Esponosa wants to control from the top but Diaz keeps moving.
Esponosa controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Diaz scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Esponosa fails with the takedown.
Diaz looks to land a right hand but Esponosa moved out of range.
Diaz throws a body punch but Esponosa moves out of range.
Diaz connects with a looping right hand.
Good standup being displayed there by Diaz as he connects with a hook.
A solid leg kick lands there for Diaz.
Diaz's jab looks to have found its range, popping Esponosa under the eye.
Esponosa is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Esponosa ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Diaz takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Esponosa goes for a double leg but Diaz avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Diaz continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ricardo Esponosa. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Diaz manages to break the clinch.
Diaz jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Esponosa on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Esponosa takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Diaz steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Esponosa.
Diaz connects with a nice looking jab.

Esponosa scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Esponosa takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Diaz looking for submissions off his back.

Esponosa is working for a kimura here but Diaz manages to reverse the position and he's now in Esponosa's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Esponosa has a closed guard, preventing Diaz from standing up.
Esponosa controls Diaz momentarily but Diaz frees himself.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Esponosa fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Diaz avoids it really well and circles away.
Diaz paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Diaz misses with a kick to the body.
Esponosa uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Diaz.
Diaz has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
Diaz attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Esponosa tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Diaz looks to land a left hand but Esponosa moved out of range nicely.
Diaz throws a solid leg kick but Esponosa takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Diaz.
Julian Diaz seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Esponosa shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Diaz slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Esponosa misses the jab.
Diaz throws out a powerful jab.
Esponosa fails with the takedown.
The fight stays on the outside here - Esponosa looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Esponosa tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Esponosa closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Esponosa drops an elbow to the side of Diaz's head.
Well, if Esponosa is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Ricardo Esponosa overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Esponosa wants to take a breather but Diaz is having none of it.
Diaz wants to get back to his feet.

Diaz is staying active underneath Esponosa, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Esponosa wants to work for an arm triangle but Diaz is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Diaz is pushing Esponosa's head away, looking to escape. Esponosa manages to hold on to the position though.
A lull in the action here as Esponosa stalls from top position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Esponosa tries for a kimura but Diaz is defending well.
Diaz pushes Esponosa away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Esponosa gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Julian Diaz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Diaz sizes up Esponosa with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Esponosa changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Diaz tries to avoid it but Esponosa manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Diaz to the ground. Diaz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Esponosa shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Diaz as he avoids it easily.

Esponosa half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Esponosa displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Diaz throws out the jab.
Esponosa drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Diaz feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Esponosas jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Diaz does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Diaz connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Esponosa takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Diaz looks to throw the jab but Esponosa is out of range.
Esponosa attempts a counter takedown but Diaz avoids it well and moves away.

Diaz fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Esponosa.
Diaz lands a nice shot that snaps Esponosa's head back.
Diaz fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Esponosa has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

and Esponosa decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Diaz's guard.

Esponosa can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Diaz is looking to escape.
Diaz is bucking up trying to escape but Esponosa cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Esponosa wants to control the pace but Diaz is squirming around nicely.
Diaz is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Julian Diaz is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Esponosa can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Diaz is looking to escape.

I've got Diaz winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
