The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tessmacher throws a right and a left that Matthews avoids nicely.

Tessmacher feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Tessmacher has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Matthews is proving hard to escape from.
Matthews bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Tessmacher's guard.

Tessmacher is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Matthews is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Matthews has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Matthews has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We've been informed that Tessmacher has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Matthews's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Matthews cracks Tessmacher with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Matthews has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Tessmacher to stand back up!

Tessmacher is holding his hands too far apart here. Matthews throws a hard, straight punch right down the pipe and BOOM! Tessmacher is out! That punch landed square on the jaw - what a shot!
