Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between David Shawty (ranked 3874 p4p, 1156 weight class) and Jon Meril (ranked 303 p4p, 98 weight class). Shawty's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, G Friend. The crowd seem to be enjoying Meril's choice of entrance music: YEAT - Get Busy. David Shawty has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, David Shawty!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Meril!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Ian Loll and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Both fighters are only really looking to counter, so after a good 30 seconds of circling each other endlessly, the referee has stepped in and told them both to be more aggressive.
Meril misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Shawty.
Shawty appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shawty has his takedown stuffed
and Shawty takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and Meril connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Meril displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Shawty.

Meril swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Shawty.

Meril throws a right and a left that Shawty avoids nicely.
Shawty feinted with a counter takedown.
Meril leaves Shawty with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Nice takedown defense from Meril. No joy for Shawty on that attempt.
As Shawty backs off Meril throws a huge counter combo but Shawty manages to avoid it all.

Meril unleashes a big counter combination but Shawty bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Meril ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Shawty moves away.
Meril has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Shawty is defended easily by Meril.
Meril is looking for the big counter here.
Meril stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Meril looks to land a right hand but Shawty moved out of range.
Shawty seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Shawty dives in for a single leg takedown but Meril sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Meril let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Meril showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! And we move into the final round!

Meril slaps away a takedown attempt from Shawty, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Meril has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.

A nice side step and Meril releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Meril lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Meril misses with a few strikes there.
Shawty tries to counter by clinching up but Meril breaks away and moves out of range.
Meril misses with a double jab.
Shawty closes the distance and clinches up with Meril, looking for a takedown. Shawty pushes Meril against the cage but Meril circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Meril throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Meril is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Meril is working Shawty over against the cage.

Shawty is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Meril gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Shawty changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Meril fights it off and pushes away nicely.
David Shawty has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jon Meril is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Shawty has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Jon Meril comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Meril has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
