PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Deanthony Pederson (ranked 399 p4p, 978 weight class) and Danny Stewart (ranked 52 p4p, 129 weight class). Stewart is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Tupac - Hit 'Em Up. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Deanthony Pederson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Danny Stewart!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pederson throws a leg kick but Stewart sees it coming and moves out of range.
Stewart takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Stewart misses with a hook. Pederson ducked under it nicely.
Pederson appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
The fighters circling - Stewart throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Pederson feinted with a counter takedown.
A big right from Stewart misses.
Stewart uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Pederson.
Stewart has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Stewart misses with a body shot.
Pederson half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Stewart rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Pederson counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Pederson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Pederson trying to control the position from guard on top but Stewart is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pederson makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Pederson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Pederson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Stewart's guard.
Pederson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stewart keeps working.
Stewart is looking to improve his position.

Pederson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Pederson is just content to waste time from the top position. Stewart takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Pederson drops back looking for a leg! Stewart is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Stewart manages to kick Pederson off! Pederson jumps back into Stewart's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pederson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Pederson looking to sit in guard and control but Stewart gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Pederson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Pederson is trying to keep Stewart in close.

Pederson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Stewart defends it easily.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Pederson is looking for a triangle but Stewart pushes his legs off easily.
Stewart trying to stand up but can't free himself from Pederson's guard.

Stewart stands up and waves to Pederson to follow him.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Stewart ducks under a wild hook from Pederson.
Pederson slips a jab from Stewart.
Pederson attempts a counter takedown but Stewart avoids it well and moves away.
Stewart throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Pederson sees it coming and avoids it easily.
A big right from Stewart misses.
Pederson appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Stewart throws a left and a right that both miss

and Pederson counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Stewart!
Pederson works to advance to full mount. Stewart defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Stewart keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Pederson is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Stewart has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Pederson working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

That's five minutes gone in the round.
Stewart working to try and regain half guard.

Pederson wants to finish this one by submission but Stewart is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Pederson.
Pederson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Stewart is looking to escape.

Stewart is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

That's six minutes gone in the round.

Pederson has hold of Stewart's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Stewart manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Stewart wants to hold on but Pederson pushes him away.
Pederson sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Stewart is bucking up trying to escape but Pederson cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Stewart tries to hold on but Pederson pushes him away.
Pederson looking to control but Stewart is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's seven minutes gone in the round.

Stewart tries to control Pederson's head but Pederson pushes him back down and moves quickly to lock up an arm here - he's swung around for an armbar! Will he get it??? Yes! Stewart is tapping out! Lovely Jiu Jitsu there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 7:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (armbar). Deanthony Pederson!

Deanthony Pederson was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
In defeat, Danny Stewart stepped up to the mic, saying 'Well shit...'.
