The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.

Kulik has Kofel up against the cage in a clinch.

Kulik jumps into guard, dragging Kofel to the mat.

Kofel has gone for a leg lock! Kulik slips out almost immediately though and dives into Kofel's guard.

Kulik not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kofel looking for subs off his back but Kulik has passed one foot through into half guard.
Kofel is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Kulik has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Kulik will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Kulik's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Kulik seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kofel for as long as he can get away with.

Kulik has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Kulik continues to stall.

Kulik wants to pass the guard but Kofel is defending well.

Kofel wants to get back to full guard but Kulik has passed into side control.

Kofel is looking to regain half guard here but Kulik keeps moving and retains side control.
Kulik is looking to take a break and control but Kofel is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Kofel rolls, trying to escape but Kulik keeps control of the position.
Kulik is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Kulik has the hooks in. Kofel is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Kulik trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Kofel doesn't escape.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Kulik.

Kulik is hanging on to Kofel's back as he tries to escape.
Kulik slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Kofel looking very determined here, making life difficult for Kulik.
Kofel rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
