PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jake Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Longfellow Deeds (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Deeds comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Evils Deeds kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Longfellow Deeds!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Summer Carpenter and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Deeds has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Walker finds it's way round the side to connect with Deeds's head.

Walker gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Deeds postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Walker is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Deeds, into his guard.

Deeds throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Walker escapes and throws Deeds's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Walker trying to control the action but Deeds is working from the bottom.
Deeds is being controlled here.
Deeds is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Walker is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Walker wants to finish this one by submission but Deeds is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Walker.
Walker wants to get back to his feet but Deeds is holding on tight.

Deeds is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Deeds is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Deeds is trying to reverse the position but instead Walker has taken his back - oops!
Deeds wants to control his opponent's hands but Walker gets his hands free.
Deeds is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Walker tries to get the hooks in deep but Deeds pushed the leg off.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Walker doesn't have the hooks in and Deeds manages to turn into his guard.
Deeds slips nicely into half guard.
Deeds prevents Walker from improving his position.
Deeds seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Walker does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Deeds is working for a submission of some sort.
Deeds looks gassed!

Walker is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Deeds pulls his head out easily.
Walker is in trouble now - Deeds has advanced to mount!

Deeds has hold of Walker's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Walker manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Deeds goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Walker turns into him and now he's in Deeds's guard.

Walker is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Walker trying to control the position from guard on top but Deeds is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Walker advances position into side control!
Walker wants to control but Deeds is keeping him busy.
Deeds regains half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Longfellow Deeds will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Excellent takedown into side control there by Deeds.
Walker gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Walker keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Deeds is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Walker to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Deeds throwing strikes from guard but Walker blocks nicely.
Walker wants to sweep but no luck.
Walker is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Deeds postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Deeds is breathing heavily.

Deeds wants to control from the top but Walker keeps moving.
Walker utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Walker controls Deeds momentarily but Deeds frees himself.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Walker swats away the attempt to clinch by Deeds.
Deeds looks to score with a jab to the body but Walker is just out of range.
Deeds shoots for a takedown but Walker saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Longfellow Deeds seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Deeds tries to score with a low kick but Walker moves his leg out of the way.
Deeds has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Walker finds it's way round the side to connect with Deeds's head.
Deeds tries to clinch but Walker is having none of it.
Deeds takes one on the button.

Deeds gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Walker moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Walker scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Walker decides to stand back up.
Walker fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Walker shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Walker wants to stand up but Deeds has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Walker throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Walker is stalling here. Deeds is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Walker seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Deeds has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Deeds tries to move into full mount but can't pass Walker's legs.

Walker is trying to get back to half guard.

Deeds swings around for an armbar but Walker sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Deeds's guard.
Deeds tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Deeds keeping moving, preventing Walker from controlling successfully.
Walker wanted to stand there but Deeds had control of the position.

Deeds throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Walker escapes and throws Deeds's legs to the side, diving into side control!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Walker working the ground and pound.
Jake Walker overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Walker working away.

Walker is trying to get an arm triangle but Deeds is defending well.
Deeds prevents Walker from moving into mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Deeds gets back to half guard.
Walker is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Walker dominated that second round.

Walker's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Walker duly obliges.
Deeds is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Deeds tries to clinch but Walker is having none of it.
Walker connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Deeds momentarily.

Deeds wants to land a leg kick but Walker is out of range.
Walker lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Deeds gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Walker cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Deeds takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Walker moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Walker cracks the inside of Deeds's front leg.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Deeds throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Walker misses with a head kick.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Deeds tries to clinch up
and Walker counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Walker darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Deeds tries to clinch but Walker moves away
and Walker counters with a stiff right hand.
Walker scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
A decent looking cross lands there for Walker.

and Walker counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Walker.

Walker got a little sloppy there for a moment and Deeds has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Walker has managed to get both his arms back between Deeds's legs - danger averted.

Walker won't allow Deeds to sweep him here.

Deeds is trying to work for a sweep but Walker has mounted him!
Deeds can't escape the position.
Walker throws some wild stikes that Deeds manages to avoid easily.
Deeds tries to reverse the position but Walker maintains control.
Deeds tries to improve his position but instead Walker has taken his back!
Deeds is really stuck here.

Walker is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Deeds has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Deeds manages to reverse the position and now he's in Walker's guard. Nice work there by Deeds.

Deeds drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Walker manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Deeds has Walker in his guard.

Deeds is looking for a triangle but Walker pushes his legs off easily.

Deeds had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Walker is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Deeds Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Walker's back instead.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Walker breaks Deeds's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Deeds controls Walker momentarily but Walker frees himself.
Walker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Deeds swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Deeds has his foot on Walker's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Walker works his way back into a safe position though.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Walker tries to stand and escape but Deeds is controlling the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jake Walker showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Walker has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
