Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hendrik Van Tonder (ranked 24803 p4p, 24251 weight class) and Ron Jacobs (ranked 447 p4p, 456 weight class). Van Tonder's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Orkney snork nie. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Jacobs, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Jacobs fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Van Tonder sprawls well initially but Jacobs persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Jacobs is nestled in close to Van Tonder, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Jacobs looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jacobs frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jacobs wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.

Jacobs stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Van Tonder throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Jacobs counters with a single leg into guard. Van Tonder didn't expect that.

Jacobs has gone for a leg lock! Van Tonder slips out almost immediately though and dives into Jacobs's guard.

Jacobs decides to take the fight back to the feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jacobs throws a series of punches but Van Tonder avoids them all with ease.
Van Tonder looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Jacobs postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Van Tonder is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Jacobs, into his guard.

Jacobs pulls Van Tonder in close to prevent any damage.

Jacobs has his feet on Van Tonder's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Jacobs is looking to slow Van Tonder down with leg kicks.
Hendrik Van Tonder seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A head kick misses from Van Tonder.
Jacobs wants to counter with a clinch but Van Tonder pushes him away.
We've been informed that Jacobs has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Jacobs closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jacobs lands in his opponent's guard.
Jacobs really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Van Tonder. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Jacobs decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Van Tonder, up you get!

Van Tonder has momentary wrist control but Jacobs slips an elbow through the middle.

Jacobs thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jacobs is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jacobs fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Van Tonder to the ground. Jacobs is now in Van Tonder's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jacobs has hold of Van Tonder's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Van Tonder tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Jacobs cranks the arm and Van Tonder screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Van Tonder, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
